Check out Mark and Josette Patterson’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark and Josette Patterson.

Mark and Josette, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Mark and I met while studying Gemology and Jewelry design at the Gemological Institute of America in Santa Monica. Soon after graduation, we moved to New York City to work and further our education.

Collaborating as a husband and wife team, we began our career as jewelry designers in 1985 when we established our own jewelry studio in the heart of New York City’s diamond district. We became known for innovation, design and craftsmanship. In 2007 we moved back home to Southern California and opened a store in Newport Beach that is an extension of our studio. We still sell our designs to some of the top jewelry stores in the country and collaborate with top brands.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
We are jewelry designers and make fine jewelry. We work with 24 karat, 18 karat gold, platinum, diamonds, precious and semi-precious stones. Everything is made in our studio from inception to finish. Nature, architecture, sometimes the shape of the stones that we use, have always been a source of inspiration for our one of a kind pieces. When it comes to bridal jewelry we like to simplify and innovate the settings. We consider ourselves artists because we dabble in other form of Art. I am a sculptor and a ceramist and Mark makes furniture. It is always good to have another creative outlet, it perpetuates the creativity.

What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
Work from the heart and learn how to manage all aspect of the business.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
As members of the American Jewelry Design Council, we are challenged every year to design and make a single piece in response to a theme. These pieces have appeared in gallery and museum exhibitions in the United States and Europe. The most recent one was at the Headley-Museum of Art in Lexington Kentucky, it just ended a few days ago. Every year we exhibit at trade shows in the US and sometimes outside of the US. You can come to our studio in Newport Beach or check on our website where to find our collections.
