Hi Mayra, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hi Everyone! My name is Mayra. I was born in Indio, CA. I moved to San Diego when I was about eight years old. I went to Chula Vista High School and got my Associate’s degree in Social Work at San Diego City College. I thought I wanted to be a Social Worker and help families in need; however, it turns out I ended up assisting families in an entirely different way. After my second child at 30 years old, I was always tired, irritated, and could barely sleep due to my newborn, and on top of that, I worked full time. Trying CBD helped me feel a lot calmer and relaxed in general. I felt like I could be a better mom and I wanted to share it with the world. That’s how [Nilo organics] was born. I started doing more research on CBD products, and finally, I created something that I myself CANNOT live without – The Nilo Organics collection. Nilo is pronounced (Nee•lo). The name Nilo came from the combination of my two children’s names, Nickolas and Kylo. Our products were blended for the body and mind with all-natural and organic ingredients, hence “Organic.”
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been challenges, but honestly, challenges are what make us stronger. They teach us lessons, and they help us grow. Coming from a social worker background, learning about shipping, marketing, and website stuff can be overwhelming at times. As a wife and a mother, I can say finding the time to work on your business while staying healthy and taking care of your family is a challenge on its own.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In general, I focus on health and wellness. Whether it’s running, working out, or eating healthy, I’m big on physical and mental health. Not only do I work on my own, but I make sure my family is good too. Cannabidiol has been the topic of conversation now for a few years, and I believe it can help many people feel their best every day. Nilo Organics is something that I am entirely proud of since it was created out of love, from the label to the formula blend. As a woman-owned business, trying to make a difference in people’s lives, it’s something I always dreamed of doing. Nilo Organics does not just send you the product. The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
This pandemic has taught me that anything can happen at any given time. However, you cannot allow it to slow you down. I have two small children that look up to me, and I refuse to teach them to be scared. I always teach my kids that no matter what is going on, stay focused and keep moving.
