Check out Megan Aaron’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Aaron.

Megan, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My story began in a yearbook class at Whitney High School in Rocklin CA. We were required to use DSLR cameras and shoot events to cover in the Yearbook. It didn’t take long for my teacher to point out the natural talent I had as well as the desire to learn more and take more pictures. Sophomore year I got my first camera, (a Canon T3 Rebel) which I took with me everywhere. I did senior pictures, maternity sessions, you name it. I didn’t turn down a single opportunity to learn about my equipment and the art of photography.

Years later, I’ve taught myself Photoshop and Lightroom. I’ve invested in new equipment, etc. But more importantly, I’ve grown and slowly learned the importance of the human behind the pictures. Who you are as a person, plays into who you are as a photographer, which then further plays into your photography, the naturalness of your clients around you, and the magic you create with them.

I honestly never considered making a serious income off of photography, but the people I’ve met and continue to meet through this business are contagious. I find a renewed source of inspiration and energy from them daily that I’ve never found elsewhere. Photography has taken me across the country and it’s safe to say I’ll continue to let it lead me, grow me, and introduce me to new people for years to come.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’m a portrait and wedding photographer that specializes in candid, natural light photography. I’ve been photographing for almost 8 years now and my work ranges from California all the way to Tennessee (although I am based in Alabama).

I am infatuated with the way photography expresses a feeling and tells a story. Whether I’m capturing individuals redeeming self-love or success or couples embracing each other in love – I take it as my responsibility to freeze time and capture the essence of that moment and the people experiencing it.

I challenge myself and viewers to understand photography as a personal and intimate art form that can never be fully replicated. No subject is the same, no lighting is the same, and no moment is the same. The inspiration I pull from the individual expression photography promotes is what drives me and captivates the way I view the very moments in my life. I live for authenticity, transparency, joy, and love, and I strive to channel those into my every work.

The sterotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
To be completely honest, I’m still working myself through these very challenges. The only tid bit of information that I’d have to share is to keep going, if it continuously is a source of happiness for you and others, then keep going, because there’s a good chance you are doing exactly what you were placed on this earth to do. Success and finances will follow if you continue to pursue what you’re passionate about.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
