Check out Melissa Wiseman’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Wiseman.

Melissa, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Photography has always been a passion of mine since I was young! I found myself engrossed in my grandmother’s photo albums. All of the black and white images were memories from the past, and it amazed me that even though I never met the people in the pictures, that moment was captured and remembered. Fast forward to my twenties, with my first born is when I truly got the courage and picked up a camera and really took the plunge. Since then, I’ve never looked back. I currently am a teacher full time and also a photographer, so my love for children and making a difference in their lives is something so rewarding! Photography doesn’t feel like a job! I enjoy every minute of it and my day is never boring or dull! I get to meet amazing clients, and I feel blessed that I get to capture ” their story”!

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Art is so personal because everyone has a different eye and a different point of view! I love to create images that are bold and colorful! I also am obsessed with candid images and close-ups. I want people to look at my photos and really see the simplicity in them and focus on the subject. I also want my pictures to tell a story, whether it be what stages their children are at or just the everyday moments.

Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
Conditions for artists today I feel are very competitive! I feel like it has become harder because there are so many creative and talented people out there, I find myself on Instagram sometimes for a long time looking at others artists and am amazed by what they can create, especially other photographers. I think what SD Voyagers is doing is awesome for exposure!

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
