Check out Monica Hunt’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Hunt.

Monica, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Hi! I grew up in the small town of Ramona, with my parents, little brother and older sister. Growing up, I always loved taking photos with my friends, just for fun. We would use disposable cameras, and develop them every week to decorate our school binders. I never thought it would become the passion that it is today, but I am so happy that it did!

In 2009, I married my high school sweet heart. We got an apartment of our own, and a puppy named Baxter. I still was pretty obsessed with taking photos at this point. By now I had one of those snap and shoot cameras with a zoom. I took pictures of everything; Holidays, Birthdays, zoo trips, even random family get-togethers. I was always there with my camera asking everyone to get together and smile! I am a firm believer in capturing memories, and having photos to look back on.

In 2012 we had our first (and only) daughter and named her Maile. She is the light of our lives and we don’t know how we ever lived without her! Her birth story was complicated, but that is a story for another time. I became a stay at home mom and we purchased our first house in our home town of Ramona. We also added another fur baby to our family named Brutus!

In November of 2017, I decided to take my passion seriously and purchased my first DSLR. I photographed mostly families and portraits at first (including my daughter who is still my favorite model ♥️), then newborns, couples, maternity, events, and others. I knew that I wanted to eventually specialize in something, but wasn’t sure what.

Weddings!!! I always loved them, so I thought that I would love to photograph them as well! I began to shift my work more towards couples and engagements. I also began second shooting at weddings with some other well known photographers to gain the experience.

In November of 2018, I photographed my first wedding. It was such a rush and so amazing!!! I was HOOKED!!! The love and joy the whole way through filled my heart with so much happiness! I felt so over joyed for their love story and felt so connected to the whole experience. I knew for sure after that, that this is where I wanted my photography journey to take me. I have since been focusing solely on engagements and weddings, along with still doing some fun shoots of my daughter. 🙂

I am so excited to continue this journey and to see where God takes me!

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Photography. I am interested in learning videography as well, but for now I only do stills. I love to capture raw emotion/candids. The love in a couple’s eyes, laughter, joy, even tears. I want to capture it all. Being able to stop a moment in time and capture a photo for someone to cherish forever, is something I am deeply passionate about. I want my photographs to tell a story, and I would love for others to see that when they look at my work.

Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
I believe that events and issues in the world can affect an artists work. I think art plays an important role in society and can bring light to real-world issues in a beautiful way. I’ve seen amazing artwork done by very talented artists to express feeling and represent real-world issues.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
