Check out Nashelle Brown’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nashelle Brown.

Nashelle, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Photography has always been a hobby that I have gravitated towards. I remember thinking that one of the main reasons I wanted an iPhone was because it had a quality camera, unlike my Blackberry wannabe GoPhone. Once I bought my iPhone, I began to take photos of every little thing I found interesting. I started to edit these photos on the app VSCO and started posting them on a separate Instagram account that would soon become my photography account. Although, I finally had an iPhone, it just wasn’t enough for me as a photographer. I wanted to start transitioning my hobby into a higher quality career. In order to do that, I realized it was best to purchase a DSLR camera. Whether it’s a Nikon or Canon, DSLRs are expensive. Thankfully, my family friend that I call my brother, offered to sell me his Canon 80D through monthly payments. A payment plan is like a well-orchestrated symphony to a college student’s ears. I snatched up that offer as soon as I could. Now, in 2018, I have already shot for a wedding, a couple portrait photoshoots, and a maternity shoot, and there is still more to come! I am so thankful for everything that has happened in my life up until this point and has helped me grow as an artist and as a person. When you’re patient and persistent, good things will follow.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’d like to say that I’m persistent with my art, but not necessarily the genre. I admire every form of photography; journalism, wedding, portrait, editorial, etc. I aim to try out every single one of these genres at least once. Some people would probably say that I just take pictures, but I would say that I capture/create moments and experiences that some people can never have again. Photography presents a literal snippet of life that can be passed down from centuries. It shows what we have lived through and what we’ll live through in the future. I am a strong believer of a picture means a thousand words. The message/inspiration I hope people will take from my artwork is that there is beauty in everything, if you look close enough. When you find that beauty, focus and capture.

The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
If you are a college student, I would highly recommend applying to as many scholarships as possible, and apply for FAFSA. For everyone else, I would recommend to never be afraid of asking for help. As scary as it is sometimes to ask, there are people out there who want to support and help you. Whether you ask via GoFundMe, social media, or straight up asking someone in person, there will be someone out there that wants to help. Also, just be nice in whatever you do in life. Good impressions can last a lifetime.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
People can find my work on my Instagram @nashellephotgraphy or on my Facebook page Nashelle Photography. On both pages, I post some of my favorite work. People can support my work by simply following my pages and recommending my photography to their friends and family.
