Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Stark.
Hi Adam, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I’ve been told that I’m always moving. I always want to find the next thing. The next opportunity. Star-K as a project has come a long way. It began with music and song collaborations while I lived in Los Angeles. I was working in a massive movie theater downtown, going to school full-time, and also picking up internship hours. After graduating, I had the ability to put my knowledge to work and open up my own studio here in San Diego. I would have friends come down and collaborate with me, and we’d work with clients in the space; it was a great time. The pandemic brought things to a halt, and I ended up closing the studio. However, once things opened back up, I started making regular trips to Los Angeles again to record music. Those trips exposed me to groups like Laesk8 and Sdesk8, which encouraged me to get outside more and to start taking trips to new places all throughout So-Cal. I just started documenting the trips and rides with my little camera and throwing them on YouTube. I’ve met people that know me from my music and people that recognize me from my videos, and that always puts a smile on my face.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always going to be challenges, you can plan everything out as perfectly as you’d like, but sometimes that’s just not the way things are going to go. Major career changes and life changes can leave you feeling like things might not be in your favor. I’ve learned that if you truly believe in something and are willing to put in the time and the effort, you can accomplish nearly anything you set your sights on.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I started this with my music, and it’s still what I am the most proud of. I’ve always been obsessed with sound, so it just scratches an itch to sit down and write lyrics or put a loop together. I just take whatever I am feeling and turn it into something that I can see or hear. Over the years, I have released eight songs and have also been featured on another by a producer that I frequently worked with in the past. I am extremely proud of the tracks released so far and am always creating more in the background. Even now, there are a few tracks that have been recorded that have not been released, and unfortunately, I can’t say for certain if those ever will be released as I no longer have contact with the producer on those projects and can’t access the files. I really enjoy finding new and unique sounds and synthesizers to use in my productions. There is so much you can do with those; they can be so expressive. You can layer a few tracks and really create something fun or special in your music.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
You have to be prepared to take risks nowadays. Over the past year, life has thrown so many obstacles at me. None times out of ten, you won’t get a warning, and you have to make the right calls and make the right moves to provide for you and your family and ensure that you have the means to keep pushing forward! I haven’t stopped yet, and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
