Today we’d like to introduce you to Alberto Blas.
Hi Alberto, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started photography when I was 12 years old, down in Mexico. My aunt was a photographer in a small town of Oaxaca, Mexico, and I used to watch her do her job, but because I was a shy boy, I never thought I would be a photographer. I remember that she wouldn’t let me change the 35mm film on the camera because it would expose the film if I didn’t do it right. My aunt used to do photography and video, but she was the only photographer in the area, so one day, she booked two jobs on the same day, and she sent me over to the second job. So, my first job as a photographer or videographer, I would say, was a wedding that I filmed on VHS cassette. Being a 12-year-old kid, I did know much on how to film an event, and looking back on the film, I did not do that bad. After that, my goal was to study engineering, but life had something else for me, and I ended up coming to the USA to work, which is something that was not on my plan. After a few years in the States, I bought a camera and decided to start shooting pictures on family event but a few years later, I started doing it more often for people. Currently, I am doing photo shoots for couples and babies, and I enjoy what I’m doing.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been smooth; on the contrary, it’s been though, and one of my struggles was the lack of time. I am currently working for a company focus on tourism, and living in California eve thing is kind of expensive. As of right now, I have my main job, and I do photography on the side. Photography equipment is expensive as well, so I’ve been building my staff little by little.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Definitely landscape photography is amazing, and I feel that the fact I can travel and meet new places is something that I want to do in my life. However, I also enjoy working with people, and capture moments that will be there for their entire life makes me feel part of them.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I would like to see my work being display in well-renowned places would be amazing. But my main focus is to grow my business hire others that love to do what I do and help them grow as well.
