Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Yojari Luna Aguilar
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started tattooing when I was 12 because I looked at a friend who came from California who was covered in Chicano style ink and when I looked at him I wanted to do that. He started me in this by revealing to me how he managed to get his tattoos in prison and we made a homemade tattoo machine and that’s how my journey through this world began.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has been difficult since in Mexico at that time there were not many resources to make the tattoo professional and everything was as if it was done in prison without the necessary care but thanks to all the technology we managed to move forward and do everything professionally.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I dedicate myself to the black and gray tattoo style more specific to the Chicano, managing to recreate the Mexican-American culture with pride. capturing faces of clowns, sexy women, weapons, cars, money, numbers and letters that represent a style that screams I am proud of my roots. That is what has made me known in Mexico and the world as a worthy representative of Chicano art. What differentiates me from the rest of the people in this field is that all my works are unique and special designs that are made based on original ideas from my clients.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice to all the new generations is that the path is going to be difficult and many times they will want to abandon it but keep going and never stop. Something that I would have liked to know when I started is that you should know more artists and learn from them, travel, read and that way you will become great.
