Check Out Allie Tyner’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allie Tyner.

Hi Allie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Absolutely! My journey into real estate has been anything but traditional, but every step along the way has shaped how I serve my clients today. I began my professional life in the fields of Speech Pathology and Behavior Therapy—industries rooted in deep listening, empathy, and helping people through significant life transitions. While I found those fields incredibly meaningful, I eventually discovered that my true calling was in real estate, where I could continue helping others—this time in one of the most important decisions of their lives: finding a home.

I made the move from Kansas to San Diego over a decade ago, bringing with me that signature Midwestern warmth and work ethic, paired with a growing love and appreciation for the California lifestyle. It didn’t take long before I found myself falling in love with San Diego’s vibrant neighborhoods, diverse communities, alll the food and, of course, the sunshine.

I now work alongside my husband as a real estate team, which has added an extra layer of purpose and joy to what we do. My background gave me the tools to navigate complex situations with patience and precision—traits that have proven invaluable in real estate. Whether it’s diving into the fine print of contracts or guiding clients through the emotional highs and lows of buying or selling, I approach every step with care, clarity, and confidence.

Over the past years, I’ve built a reputation as a trusted advisor in San Diego’s dynamic market. I pride myself on being both approachable and detail-oriented, which allows my clients to feel supported and fully informed throughout the entire process.

Outside of real estate, I have a passion for calligraphy—an art form that reflects my love for elegance and attention to detail. Music is another creative outlet for me; playing guitar helps me reset and stay inspired. My silky terrier, Harper Jones, keeps me grounded and reminds me to enjoy the simple moments in life.

Real estate, for me, is about more than just transactions—it’s about connection, understanding people’s stories, and helping them find a place that truly feels like home. I feel incredibly lucky to combine my personal passions and professional strengths into a career that brings so much fulfillment.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road—but I don’t think anything truly worthwhile ever is. There are always struggles with any path we take in life, and real estate has been no different. Transitioning from my original career in speech pathology and behavior therapy into real estate was a bold, scary move. It meant starting over in a completely new industry, putting in long nights studying and working while friends were out enjoying their weekends. It was a huge shift, but one I embraced fully, knowing that it aligned with my long-term goals and passion for helping others in a more dynamic, hands-on way.

What a lot of people don’t see is how all-consuming this business can be. As a realtor, you’re working seven days a week—early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays. The joke in our house is, “What day is it even?” because it truly is a 24/7 lifestyle. You have to love the hustle and be ready for anything.

On top of that, my husband and I are also full-time real estate investors, managing properties and projects not just in California, but in Colorado, Kansas, and Missouri (who knows where we’ll be next!). We’re also Airbnb Superhosts, hosting five different homes and short-term rental spaces. Managing those properties and delivering a consistent five-star guest experience adds another layer to our daily responsibilities—but it’s something we genuinely love.

Of course, balancing it all can be tough. Sometimes we’re in different states, managing different projects, which can definitely put a strain on our marriage. But we make it work with daily phone calls, FaceTime dates, and a lot of open communication—most of it about work, but just as much about life.

At the end of the day, the challenges have only made me more resilient, more creative, and more in tune with what really matters—both in business and in life. I’ve learned that success isn’t about things going perfectly; it’s about showing up, staying adaptable, and doing the work even when it’s hard. And for that, I’m incredibly grateful.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In a nutshell—I help people navigate some of the biggest decisions of their lives with clarity, care, and confidence. I’m a full-time Realtor serving both buyers and sellers throughout San Diego and beyond, and I specialize in working with first-time homebuyers, military families (active duty and veterans), and everyday heroes—nurses, teachers, first responders, and other frontline workers who often don’t get the spotlight they deserve. Helping them become homeowners, especially using tools like VA loans or first-time buyer programs, is not just my job—it’s my passion and privilege.

I’m incredibly honored to be recognized as the #3 agent out of 50 working with Veterans United, helping military personnel and their families successfully purchase and sell real estate. Supporting those who serve our country is one of the most meaningful parts of my work, and I approach it with deep respect, knowledge, and commitment.

As mentioned, my husband and I also run a short-term rental business as Airbnb Superhosts, managing five different spaces with a focus on design, hospitality, and thoughtful details. Hosting has deepened my understanding of investment properties and vacation rentals—so I love helping clients find income-producing homes or navigate the world of STRs with confidence.

What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve earned from clients who often come to me overwhelmed and uncertain, and leave feeling educated, empowered, and excited about their next step. I meet people where they are, and I guide them without pressure—just patience, honesty, and heart.

What truly sets me apart is my empathy. I don’t just focus on the transaction—I focus on the people. I know that buying or selling a home isn’t just a financial decision—it’s deeply personal. I take the time to really listen, understand what matters most to my clients, and walk alongside them at their pace. That empathy is what allows me to show up fully, even in high-stress moments, and offer guidance that feels human, not just professional.

That, combined with a unique blend of business and creativity, gives my clients something special. I’m deeply analytical and detail-oriented when it comes to contracts, numbers, and strategy—but I’m also an artist at heart. I’ve got a background in calligraphy, guitar, doodling, and even improv comedy, and I bring that creativity and joy into everything I do. Whether I’m helping stage a home, designing a marketing strategy, or simply calming a client’s nerves—I lead with heart, humor, and a personal touch.

My goal is never just to close a deal. It’s to build a relationship, make the experience memorable, and help my clients feel truly seen, supported, and celebrated. That’s what fuels me every day.

Any big plans?
My husband and I are keeping our heads down and continuing to grind—building something meaningful for our future and maybe even future little ones. We’re focused on growing our business while still carving out time for magical getaways in between the never-mundane work days. Finding that sweet spot between hustle and joy is what we’re all about.

Pricing:

  • You get what you pay for in real estate. If an agent is offering services at a deep discount, chances are you’re also getting discounted experience, marketing, and negotiation. I charge a fair price for premium service, because getting top dollar (or the best deal) requires a full-service, strategic approach.
  • Pre-approval is everything. For buyers, having a pre-approval letter in hand before touring homes is critical—it helps you understand your true purchasing power, strengthens your offer, and prevents wasted time in a competitive market.
  • NAR Settlement Update (effective August 2024): Buyers will now likely need to negotiate and sign a contract outlining how their agent will be compensated before touring homes. Sellers are no longer required to offer buyer-agent compensation, but doing so may still help attract more offers. Both buyers and sellers should work with agents who can clearly explain how these changes affect their bottom line.
  • Pricing a home correctly from Day 1 matters. Overpricing can lead to longer days on market and ultimately lower offers. I use market data, comps, and staging expertise to price right and sell faster.
  • Short-term rentals: If you’re buying with Airbnb in mind, know that regulations and permitted zones vary by city—pricing strategy needs to include cash flow analysis, occupancy trends, and renovation potential.
