Check Out Ally Alagar’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ally Alagar.

Hi Ally, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been a licensed manicurist since 2014, and I specialized in hand-painted nail art. Whenever people asked me, “Have you always known you wanted to do nails?” And truthfully, I always thought I was going to be a tattoo artist but… Tried it, hated it. And then, I started doing own my nails and fell in love with idea that you can paint such intricate designs with such little space. After getting my license, I’ve always worked at different salons but due to COVID, I started working on my own. And honestly, It’s probably one of the best decisions I have ever made. I put my heart and soul to perfecting my craft, and I hope it shows.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not. But I think in life, you have to embrace the highs and lows in order to learn. I come from a very typical Asian household, where if you’re not a nurse/doctor/engineer, then what’s your purpose in life? Growing up, I struggled with depression/anxiety. I graduated high school late. When I took my manicurist license the first time, I failed. I struggled with drugs/alcohol. Back in 2017-2018, I went back to school and I graduated the LVN program. And ended up hating it. But in the midst of it all, nails was always been the little light at the end of my tunnel. Give me some paints and some brush, and I’m happy.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialized in hand-painted nail art. I love the bright, colorful nails. I love painting characters (Disney, celebrities +). I think there are little hints about who a person is, in what type of nails they wear. So I love the idea that people can express themselves through their nail sets. It’s an enjoyable experience not only for me but my clients when a nail set comes out exactly how they envision it.

How do you think about happiness?
The little things makes me happy. I love creating, learning. But most of all, I love surrounding myself with good energy. I love my family, my wife + 3 little pups, and my clients.
