Check Out Amy Reichert’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Reichert

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a mother, I decided to stand up for the safe reopening of schools and small businesses. I co-founded ReOpen San Diego, and we filed a federal lawsuit that saved the jobs of first responders, ultimately prevailing in federal court. We also protected the jobs of college professors who faced termination in 2023 due to vaccine mandates. Now, as the chairwoman of RestoreSanDiego.org, I continue to advocate for our communities. You can find me on Instagram, X & Facebook @amyforsandiego as a citizen journalist speaking up daily about local issues the media won’t touch.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The name-calling and division have been truly disheartening. I received bizarre letters at my home, complete with photos of my family, wishing we would die of COVID simply because we advocated for the safe reopening of schools and businesses. Such bullying tactics don’t intimidate me; they only strengthen my resolve to continue speaking out. When it comes to issues revolving around individual freedoms, I won’t be silenced.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
One highlight was when the San Diego Police Officers Association gifted me a San Diego Police Department badge patch, the same one they wear on their shoulders, as a thank you for my work in protecting their jobs. In June of 2024, they asked me, just a regular person and not a local celebrity to emcee their Police Officer of the Year Award Gala. Back in 2020, I was just someone with a 9-5 job whose job was not threatened but knew I had to stand up for first responders, teachers, nurses, small businesses and kids.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
San Diego is my sense of place, and I love it with all my heart. Many San Diegans have been shocked to see the decline in the quality of life here over the past five years. The floods in January 2024 were a wake-up call for many, highlighting the mismanagement of funds that should have been allocated to flood drain management but were squandered by career politicians. This prompted me to start RestoreSanDiego.org, giving average citizens like myself a platform to voice our concerns, advocate for change and never give up on San Diego.
