Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Sampiere
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My husband and I purchased a turnkey vacation rental duplex in Del Mar in the Beach Colony in 2014. I didn’t know anything about the business but just jumped in and started learning. My sister and her husband loved it, and they bought a similar duplex one street over and said, “You’ll manage it for us, won’t you?” Then, one of my guests bought a condo in Del Mar and asked if I’d manage that as well. Within 6 months, I was managing 5 vacation rentals while having 4 teenage kids and another job!
With my sister’s support and encouragement, I quit my job and committed fully to vacation rental management and grew to managing 43 listings at one point without ever marketing our services. We grew by word of mouth and referrals.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Lots of joy through helping families have a wonderful vacation experience in our magnificent area but lots of struggles and growing pains with software and general property home maintenance issues. The quality of manufactured goods and appliances is a constant pain point. Managing through Covid was a real struggle as well, but it turned out to be a real positive for the vacation rental industry.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an engineer by degree. I like to problem solve, and my attention to detail, organized nature, and responsive and well-thought-out communication are my strengths! Since I’m a mom of 4 (in less than 5 years), I know what it’s like to travel with kids, and we do our best to make that as easy as possible for our guests.
I’m courageous, a quick decision maker and I like to work hard 😎
