Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenna Malmberg
Hi Brenna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Snail Mailed It started in the fall of 2024 as a way for me, Brenna Malmberg, to continue my card writing adventure. I have always loved writing cards and sending fun snail mail, and I started to share that hobby more when I joined Instagram as @brennamedia. That account is still going strong with snail mail art, as well as other crafts and family shenanigans.
My mail hobby turned into a job in 2016 when I started writing cards (and working behind the scenes) at Punkpost. During that time, I wrote more than 8,000 cards for others, not to mention all the additional time I spent as the person — and voice— behind the company’s social and marketing platforms. Sadly, Punkpost closed in July 2024, leaving me with no cards to write and no marketing to create. That’s when I decided to open my own shop and keep writing cards: Snail Mailed It (snailmailedit.com).
Today, I am writing custom greeting cards for people around the world. I handletter each card design and message, as well as address the envelope and drop it in the mail. I love being able to help people make good on their good intentions of sending mail.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has definitely not been smooth, but I have a lot of great people around me who have encouraged and helped me create Snail Mailed It. The biggest challenge has been getting a website up and running with limited time and resources. I am not only a newly minted small business owner, but the mom to two small children. That means the business side of my day is unpredictable and comes in small windows of time. I’ve also never owned my own business, so figuring out all the forms and paperwork, along with the responsibility of creating the website have been challenges.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I create custom, handwritten greeting cards — message and all — and mail it off for you. These cards aren’t just any cards. They are little works for art for the recipient, complete with handlettering and doodles. I am most proud of the evolution of my lettering and doodles, and the established art style I have created. It always makes me smile when people see my work and immediately know I am the artist behind it.
How do you define success?
For me right now, success is being able to do work I like while also having a flexible schedule for my family. It allows me to balance the different sides of my life — creator, artist, marketer and mom — and create a life that makes me feel fulfilled.
