Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Shihadeh.
Hi Brianna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was 14 when I started falling in love with locking hair, I worked as a scare actor for volunteer hours in high school at a local baseball field. I ended up meeting a make-up artist there, who made her own hair lock extensions. I was infatuated with her hair and asked her to teach me. Over the next 10 years, I worked many different jobs but couldn’t find the one that was reaching where I wanted to be financially. I wanted to start implementing my knowledge and experience into a job. I started to document everything I was doing on YouTube and have continued to do that for the past 4 years. My videos include anything from teaching people how to do their own hair, painting murals, tutorials on face painting, makeup, hula hooping, and cooking. I began to reach out to people on my online community to create groups to build an off-grid art community. The goal is to have a location where people can go and create art. We purchased land during covid to begin the process and recently drove up to visit the land and see what we need to do first. I started to document videos every month for the past couple years as to show the entire journey along the way.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I had purchased an ambulance to start a mobile dreadlock company. Thinking I could travel up and down the coast working with clients along the journey. We started to drive to San Diego, on the way there we noticed it was taking a lot more money in gas than we initially expected and cut our trip short. Luckily, we did because the gas was leading out Under the vehicle. It was sitting a while before we were able to get it fixed. Now that we have burnished the engine and the interior, we are ready to go back out.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am most known for my dreadlock work as a loctition. Specializing in short hair lock extensions where we can add more hair and go from 2 inches to 2 feet. I feel locking hair in a mobile converted ambulance sets me apart from the everyday salon vibe.
How do you define success?
I define success by finding what you love, doing it well, and being financially stable by implementing what you love in your work.
