Today we’d like to introduce you to Caley Rose.
Caley, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Caley Rose, and I’m a Billboard-charting singer, songwriter, and the proud founder of Music with a Message, empowering music assemblies that build self-confidence and prevent bulling for students pre-K through 18!
2 years ago, I started to notice that young women were gravitating toward my music. I started to think about how I was bullied in middle school, and I wanted to help girls through this difficult period of life. I already had written and released a ton of female empowerment music, and I knew I wanted to get this music to young women. I began speaking in schools about my own experience getting bullied and building self-confidence as well as connecting my empowering original music to my message. I rewrote a ton of my songs to empower all students, not just girls like me, and Music with a Message was born!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’m super glad I started taking action and speaking and singing live in schools before I could let my perfectionism get in the way. Perfectionism is just fear trying to keep us safe. We never reach “perfect,” so we would never take action if we listened to these fear voices!
Building Music with a Message into a business has had its challenges, trying to figure out how to reach schools, what methods to use for marketing, etc, but I’ve been grateful to have great mentors in my life that helped me along the way! Reaching out to others for support when we struggling can be the biggest challenge, but it’s also the most important. People want to help, and they can’t do it, if they don’t know we need them! Now, Music with a Message has grown considerably, with new music for the assemblies, a full year-long confidence-building and bullying prevention curriculum, and strategic methods to building self-confidence in students.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a Billboard charting singer-songwriter who’s had music on TV, in commercials, in films, and all kinds of cool places! My songs “Who’s That Girl” and “Game Over” played on the radio all over. I make music to empower, inspire, and connect. I’m about to release my first ever album, which will be in the singer-songwriter genre! I’m super excited to share these songs with the world. They’re songs intended to uplift listeners and these songs are also my most vulnerable and honest songs yet!
You can hear my music on all streaming platforms- Spotify, Apple Music, everywhere, by searching for Caley Rose.
What were you like growing up?
Music has always been my passion, but there were a number of starts and stops along the way. There was a lot of self doubt and limiting beliefs that I needed to work through in order to get here. I think sometimes when we love something so much, we can put a ton of pressure on that goal. I worked in voice over for a long time (and am still thankful to do so! You can hear my voice in Dove and Carabbas commercials right now!), and I tried to convince myself that I was happy working solely in voice over, but I needed music in my life. There are so many ways to follow your passion, and I tried them all on for size- working toward musical theater, then realizing it wasn’t my place. I gave up on being an artist for a while and thought I would be content as a songwriter, but something inside me knew I loved performing. I met a girl who was performing regularly, and that jealousy felt so intense that I couldn’t sleep at all that night. I highly suggest that you listen to that jealousy you feel and let it guide you. The good news is, success leaves breadcrumbs. When you see someone else living your dream life, it shows you that it’s possible. Try to learn from them and take action steps toward that life every day.
