Check Out Callie Garcia’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Callie Garcia.

Hi Callie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a second generation designer and granddaughter of a builder my path was already written for me.

Design runs in my DNA. It has found me at every cross road and was always the path I felt most called to choose.

I started in the womb as my mother ran her own business and still does to this day, A custom design, based out of New York. I spent the summers of my childhood helping her with deliveries, watching her cut slip covers and galavanting through the tile shops she would drag me Into.

Over time I really Developed a deep appreciation for quality materials, fabric and wallpaper being my favorite. I would sit in the paint store flipping through wallpaper books while she worked and it felt like watching a movie. Mesmerized by the textures and patterns.

Much like sitting in the garage with her while she cut drapes and slip covers – our garage was stacked to the ceiling with fabric books. I loved every minute of learning about the textures and materials.

I launched my company after learning how to sell within the home furnishing space. I worked For arhaus furniture right out of college and that career honed the skills I have now to be able to run my own company. They transferred me to San Diego , knowing from early adulthood that was where I wanted to land, I felt so blessed to work for a company that would make that a reality for me.

Currently I focus on major construction projects. Remodels, additions and ground up construction. I got to where I am Today because really amazing people believed in me and gave me opportunities that were beyond my capacity but they let me grow and trusted me to succeed. But most importantly , I got to use my mother’s ceiling as the floor I jumped from. She laid hard ground work as a women in the early 2000s running a business. I was so Inspired by her.

She would say I’m the 2.0 version but nothing beats the OG.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road.

The year I stared my business was the most challenging year of my adult hood to date.

I had no money. My family had been dealing with some major hardships, I had Gotten covid three times and had two car accidents.

Life was uncomfortable, but I knew if I kept pushing a believing and trusting myself and God that I would make it. I felt so deeply that I was called to run this company at the time and by the end of the first year I was Able to really support myself and sustain a baseline.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As an interior designer I specialize in remodel work, additions and ground up construction. But as a full service firm we offer so much more than that, including custom window treatments, furniture refinishing, space planning and color consults.

I’m known for creating hyper customized spaces that speak to the functionality and taste of my clients. Every project is so individual. Because all of us are different.

Not every customer knows what they want so it’s my job to find out who they are and how to make that come alive in their home. Interior design is the 3D personification of the individuals that take up whatever space is being designed. And I help make that vision a reality

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
My favorite book ever is Dare to Lead by Berne Brown.

Design is vulnerable – any kind of creative work is vulnerable

In her book she says , “ The courage to be vulnerable is not about winning or losing, it’s about the courage to show up when you can’t predict or control the outcome.

This really stuck with me as it’s the foundation of what I do.

A podcast I love Is Mindshift by Erwin McManus . He is building a community of leaders that want to win and see others win. Everything topic he discusses challenges me to show up in the world with grace, passion and excellence.

The other resource that helps me do my best in life are the amazing women who love me , love God and know how to feed my soul by being great friends. Get around a great group of people- they will change the trajectory of your life.
