Hi Carly, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always loved the beach/ocean and fashion, so it was a natural progression to design and make swimwear. After fashion school, I bounced around from Los Angeles to San Francisco and back to Northern California. But I always had San Diego on the mind, so when the opportunity arose to open my own shop in Pacific Beach, I took it!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The fashion and retail industries are definitely not for the faint of heart. But one thing I’ve learned is that everyone struggles every day, and you can choose to dwell or choose to problem-solve. Finding positivity in everyday life is by far one of the most important things for a business owner.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am currently a one-woman show; I design, pattern make, sew, market, and sell my swimwear brand. I make bikinis for those who live in theirs! My company is small batch based; I only use mill end, deadstock, or eco fabrics. My pieces are sold as separates, so you not only get the right fit, you can mix and match to your hearts content! My goal is to make swimwear that makes you happy, that encompasses joy and stoke. I want to spread bikini love to everyone!
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I make it a habit to practice patience and positivity every day. To fulfill your dreams, you need tenacity, logic, and humility. Every day you have to adapt and get to learn, so why not do your best to enjoy it.
