Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Foust
Hi Casey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I created PPSD (Pedals and Pints San Diego, now known as PPBC or Pedals and Pints BREWCREW) back in November of 2016 as a way to meet other people that enjoyed riding bikes and drinking beers. I noticed there were a lot of social groups and rides but they all were up north so I decided to start something in the South Bay Area.
PPSD started out as a social ride/club where we’d meet up and ride to different breweries and bars in the South Bay. As I grew as a cyclist PPSD grew and changed with me to what it is today, PPBC.
Nowadays instead of slow and short social rides of 8-15 miles once a month, we’re now riding multiple days a week anywhere from 20-100 miles per ride. We host casual group rides, training rides, coffee rides and we still host an occasional social ride from time to time.
PPBC is a contemporary cycling collective of beverage connoisseurs, connecting the coordinates from coffee shop to craft brewery via path, pavement, or trail; regardless of a more logical and / or direct route.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Changing from social rides to what we do know we’ve seen a difference in attendance due to the ability of riders and what is required to be able to finish a longer faster ride. Most people don’t want to do the longer harder rides but we’re of the mindset that those cold beers taste better after those long hard miles.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Ride bikes. drink coffee / beer. do good. not necessarily in any order.
Our Baseline: Being a good person doesn’t depend on your jersey, your socks, your bike, your race, or your culture. It depends on how good your heart is and how you treat others.
What’s Required: you / me / we / positivity / personalities / bikes / beer / coffee / superstition / heritage / love / life / happiness / climbs / descents / and as many WTF moments as possible.
Let’s drown your training plan in a nice cold beer, shall we?
Look pro, say hello.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
We believe that brewers and roasters are our the patron saints of our niche culture and should be treated as such.
We believe that beer and coffee should be served with care (no spills) and respect to temperature, as the brewer intended.
We believe in getting out and getting lost (intentionally or otherwise).
We believe that good decisions are good, but bad decisions are sometimes better.
We believe in being not only good citizens, but good humans as well.
We believe that a ride is only as good as people it’s shared with.
