Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Cordero.
Hi Courtney, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Coco San Diego started about four years ago in the hopes to make new friends, share amazing places and in all honesty as a hobby! Let’s face it, making friends as an adult in a new place can be hard. I had moved from the Bay Area in 2015 and really only met a handful of friends at work. My husband and I were constantly out and about checking out our new city. I started to document where we would go as I wanted to share with people all the great spots. Well four years later, it has turned into an incredible platform of meeting people, sharing all the best spots, supporting local businesses and ultimately a fun hobby for me. I love that when I am out and about people recognize me or even DM me to ask for recommendations for their date nights. It truly is a way I can be my authentic self and have fun along the way!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For the most part, it has been a smooth road. For me personally, it is not my full-time job so what I put in, I get out and I am okay with that. The biggest challenge has honestly been the transition of becoming a mom. My baby was my Coco San Diego platform for a long time. Now I am learning the managing of my platform and honestly, the hardest part… picking and choosing what I can attend and not attend. Before it was no problem. In fact, I was somewhere out 5-6 times a week and now I don’t have the time or energy to keep up. So right now, I am doing what I can, leaning into motherhood, bringing Bobo San Diego on my adventures and prioritizing my collaborations.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So Coco San Diego is my hobby which makes it great not to rely on it as a financial obligation when it comes to working with businesses.
My professional career is in fundraising! I am currently the Senior Director of Development for the YMCA of San Diego County. My role is to support all of the YMCAs here in San Diego to ensure we have best practice fundraising initiatives to raise funds for those in need. I LOVE my job and I get to not only meet people from all walks of life but I get to raise funds for an organization that truly changes lives. Many people don’t always know the YMCA is a non-profit so I get to educate and share life-changing stories with San Diegans.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
That I wasn’t born and raised in San Diego! (I know, what a poser.) However, after living here seven years, I am starting to feel like I can call myself a local!
Coco San Diego was inspired by Carmen San Diego! I LOVED Carmen San Diego growing up and how she went all over the world to discover new places and tell people about where she traveled. I like to think that is what I do for San Diego!
