Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniella Berumen
Hi Daniella, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I would say it started when I was in the 6th grade I decided I wanted to make a instagram because at this time it started to become popular to have one. Given I was in the 6th grade so I was pretty young haha. But a couple years go by and I just would post to post and i remember my first ever brand that I worked with was a eyelash brand. I was so excited and thrilled that I got my first product I have ever received. As time went by a couple of small brands had messaged me to work with them. Little by little I would slowly work with brands that have reached out to me. I appreciated it so much because they were all supportive and really helped me elevate my style and work. I have always been into art. I love painting and doing anything that involves creativity and with this job it makes me feel like I am my own bratz doll to dress myself up and be creative. I started falling in love with styling and being able to have creative direction. In every collaboration I have been more than appreciative I would never had imagined to be able to work with such amazing brands. So truly younger me would be proud. I always was in aw when it came to YouTube always wanted to be someone who was able to just be creative. This outlet has been such a great place for me to just be able to find my inner child and play dress up. Now I am hoping to continue to build my brand and be able to continue to work with amazing brands.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I would say this has always been an escape for me and has always been something I really enjoy but as this has been a very consistent process there was struggles that came along the way. Most of my work is collaborative and not paid so as I work on my brand I also worked a 9-5 to also being a first generation Latin X college student. This is where i eventually noticed I had creative block and it was hard to balance things when I had to put other things as a priority. My parents have always been so supportive and have always been excited and happy that I have been able to share my work with them. My mom actually would help me in the beginning because I had no source of transportation so she would take me and just be so supportive. My partner is also very supportive which is very much appreciated along with my sister
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I would say my work is a bit of styling and being a creative director. Brands will reach out to me and collaborate so I can promote their products. I think for me I have always been very passionate and have always been detailed oriented. I have always posted “detail” pictures where it’s a photo of all the details of my promotion of product and I remember Lids being the first big verified company to reach out to me and that has always been something I have been proud of and very appreciative. When it comes to my work I always envision almost like a character that I am building so from head to toe every detail counts. From hair to nails to the outfit and especially the background. To me it feels like I am doing 3 things at once. Being the “model” then being the stylist as well as the director of location and of the shot. I usually take my own pictures with a tripod and a app called photo lens. So I have always been able to know what I like and what I don’t.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I would say Pinterest has always been an app that is so fun and easy to get inspiration from other creative artists. Being able to sketch out my work has also been super helpful and inspiring. I am a very visual person so it’s nice to be able to sketch things out.
