Today we’d like to introduce you to Deidre Sayles-Mosley.
Hi Deidre, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I moved from the Metro Detroit area to San Diego in 2015, I was excited for a new chapter but also hoped to find something I deeply missed—a genuine community of Black women who uplifted, inspired, and supported one another. That search led me to a local Black women’s social club, where I eventually had the honor of serving as Chapter President for four years. Leading that community became one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, allowing me to build lasting relationships, create meaningful experiences, and help cultivate spaces where Black women could simply show up as themselves. Beyond community building, I’m passionate about intentionally supporting Black-owned businesses throughout San Diego while growing my career in the corporate world. Everything I do is rooted in connection, representation, and creating opportunities for our community to thrive together.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey, however, hasn’t been without hardship. In 2019, I experienced the heartbreaking loss of my best friend—a loss that forever changed me. In 2024, I was unexpectedly laid off, forcing me to redefine my career path while navigating uncertainty. At the same time, I’ve supported my spouse through mental health challenges, which has taught me the importance of grace, resilience, and showing up for the people we love, even during life’s most difficult seasons.
Through every high and low, I’ve learned that community isn’t just something we seek—it’s something we build. Those experiences have strengthened my commitment to leading with compassion, uplifting others, and creating spaces where people feel seen, supported, and empowered.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I currently serve as a Franchise Consultant with The UPS Store network, where I support 30 franchise locations throughout North County San Diego. In my role, I partner with franchise owners to strengthen business performance, improve operations, develop their teams, and create strategies for long-term growth. What I enjoy most is helping business owners solve challenges while empowering them to reach their goals.
What I’m most proud of isn’t a single title or accomplishment—it’s the impact I’ve been able to make in both my professional and personal life. Whether I’m coaching franchise owners, mentoring others, or bringing people together through community events, I strive to leave every person and every space better than I found it.
I believe what sets me apart is my ability to lead with both strategy and heart. I’m equally comfortable analyzing business performance as I am cultivating relationships and building community. My experiences navigating personal loss, career transitions, and family challenges have strengthened my resilience, deepened my empathy, and shaped me into a leader who values authenticity, service, and meaningful connection above all else.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that you can only control what you can control. Life has brought its share of unexpected challenges, from losing my best friend and navigating career setbacks to supporting loved ones through difficult seasons. Those experiences taught me that while I can’t control every circumstance or outcome, I can control how I respond—with resilience, grace, and purpose.
I’ve also learned that not everyone will show up for me the way I naturally show up for others, and that’s okay. Releasing those expectations has allowed me to protect my peace, appreciate the people who genuinely pour into me, and continue leading with kindness without expecting anything in return. That mindset has given me the freedom to focus my energy on what truly matters: my growth, my community, and the life I’m intentionally creating.
