Check Out Diana Nelte’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Nelte

Hi Diana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
After college ,2014, I found out after working 9-5s that it wasn’t meant for me and my personality. I met a friend through bumble bff and she told me about her entrepreneurial career in the beauty business as a waxer. I decided after hearing about her success to enroll into beauty school at the bellus academy in Poway in 2017. I worked at waxing chain for three years, knowing in the back of my mind that I wanted to get really good at waxing before I opened my own waxing business. I finally felt in a good place to open my own business in March 2014.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been easy road! I live with my parents while I’m working on my business. I also work part time in retail to pay rent for my suite. It’s a lot of moving plates and personalities to deal with. During slow season it’s hard not to get down on myself, thinking I’m not posting on social media enough or reaching out to clients for repeat appointments. I do have a good support system of other inspiring women who also own their business or have good career who cheer me on. I’ve been sober for two years and my sobriety definitely helps me in keeping my business afloat.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What sets me apart from other solo waxers in San Diego. I went back to school to become a medical assistant in 2019. I was able to work in med spas and dermatology offices for a couple of years and I learned more about skin care than I did in beauty school. I also worked at Sephora as a sales associate and an esthetician for a year which really helped me create a skin care routine for myself and others. I believe my past work experiences and my friendly demeanor helps set me apart from other establishments.
After opening my waxing business and falling in love with the rush of being an entrepreneur. I want to expand my services. I wanted to find other ways to bring in more revenue and decided to go back to school for massage in winter 2025. I wanted to specialize in lymphatic massage, reiki massage and full body waxing.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I would recommend to stay in touch with coworkers or bosses from past jobs cause a few of my coworkers started their entrepreneurship earlier than I did. I think I had an easier time finding mentors when I opened my business cause I kept in contact with also supported their business. A few people that I didn’t know personally reached out to me on social media to offer their support. I’ve met other entrepreneurs in different industries through Facebook groups, I would recommend reactivating Facebook for the groups to meet mentors also.
