Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Tenaglia.
Hi Erica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Since I was a small child, I always love art and was drawn to American movies. That passion made me pursue classes in the entertainment industry. Once I found my niche in the art department, I enjoyed connecting with other departments and making a story come alive through various forms of art. Learning what the director wants to express and transform their vision into a reality is one of my biggest objectives. Hearing that their vision looks better than they could imagine puts a big smile in my face.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My biggest challenge was leaving my native country, my family, my friends. Putting my life into a small Jordache luggage and pursuing my American dreams. It hasn’t been a smooth road yet is all about perspective. I am going after the life I want and putting my whole heart and hard work to achieve it. I have been able to meet amazing people, have some creative and passionate friends, a supportive family, the discipline to work until the job is done to my personal satisfaction.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a production designer, art director, set dresser, prop maker, character developer, wardrobe fabricator, makeup artist. I have studied different kinds of art since I was a small child and have admiration from all aspects. Design, color, balance, structure, type. As a small child, my mom used to take me walking down the streets of Buenos Aires, she would teach me about the architecture. How my ancestors came to Buenos Aires from Italy and France and work hard to make the city so beautiful that I should be proud of that and always work hard myself, that I have that passion within me. Now as an adult, I want to be inspiring to others through my art form and make them believe in movie magic as I do.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My parents have been the biggest influence to be the person I am today. My mother was magical, very loving, and kind. She was very passionate and artistic. My father is the hardest worker I have ever meet. He always let me used his tools since I was a toddler, I broke a few of his measuring tapes to say the least. His work ethic inspires me and even tho he might not be aware of it, he is my hero. The more I get to know the wonderful human he is, the more I admire him. My biggest dream would have to have my dad walk a red carpet with me and to see my work on the big screen. My husband is very supportive and understanding. My friends are inspiring and encouraging.
