Check Out Frankie Krygs’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Frankie Krygs.

Hi Frankie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by sharing how you got started.
I moved to California back in 2019 from Northern New Jersey. I was working at Lifetime Fitness at the time and transferred out here to help open up the new location in La Jolla. Months later, in early 2020, Covid happened, and the world shut down. A little past the halfway point during the pandemic Lifetime Fitness reached out and said they were letting me go. On top of that, my landlord was selling his property. So here I am out here in San Diego with no relatives or friends prior to moving out, jobless, and soon-to-be homeless. I didn’t know what I was going to do, but I knew I needed to do something ASAP.

I saw this ad online talking about getting certified as a Life Coach. I knew deep down I didn’t want to be a personal trainer for the rest of my life. I knew I was meant for more; I just didn’t know what that “more” was or looked like. Paying a lot of money to become a certified life coach when I didn’t have a job and soon wouldn’t have a place to live seemed like such a dumb and reckless decision. Even though my circumstances and conditions seemed overwhelming, and the timing couldn’t be any worse, I pulled the trigger anyway and started my journey to be a life coach.

As the world started to go back to normal, I was just finishing up the final months of my life coaching certification. I also found a new place to live, where I begin training people in the front yard. All I had was a few pieces of fitness equipment. It was one kettlebell, a pair of 25lb dumbells, yoga blocks, and a couple of booty bands. It started out with one person, then turned into two, then three, and after that, I knew I needed an actual gym space with more equipment. So, I moved again, this time into a bigger and better place, and converted the garage into a professional-grade gym studio.

What started out through word of mouth as a side hustle training the neighbors during Covid in the front yard has turned into a full-blown business called Kinetic Krygs, offering services like personal training (in person and virtual), nutrition guidance, life coaching, and more. I even had to hire help with administration and back-office tasks to accommodate the business demands. The course that I offer on my website called “DreamBuilder” is the most popular product/service that I offer along with life coaching, but I still offer personal training for now. I also created and released an eBook called “Kinetic Ketosis,” which has helped a lot of people lose weight, increase their energy, and improve sleep quality.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting your own business is anything but a smooth road, especially when you’re starting it during a global pandemic. The smart way of going about it would be to start and work on your side hustle when you’re still working for another company. When you’re making your “breakeven” number in profit each month, then you can quit your full-time job and make your side hustle your main hustle. I didn’t get that opportunity since I was laid off. I didn’t have any other choices at the time; I had to make it work. I had to learn different types of software and apps for scheduling, running payments, email automation, project management, and more. I had to find people and places selling fitness equipment while the world was shut down.

After I renovated the garage, my very first month of opening shop publicly, I got Covid and couldn’t train anyone the first 2 weeks back in 2021. The busiest month of the year for the fitness world, and I couldn’t even do anything about it. I was already losing money. The financial burden and uncertainty of starting and running your own business is like a rollercoaster. Some months are good, some are great, some are bad, and some are downright scary. It’s been a wild ride, but we’re only getting bigger and better!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I help people break through emotional, physical, mental, or spiritual barriers so they can elevate their quality of life while becoming the best version of themselves. This is done usually through going through the 12-week Dream Builder course combined with life coaching.

I specialize in motivational speaking, teaching people how to make peace with their past through forgiveness, and coaching others to face their fears and do what is uncomfortable so their lives could be more comfortable. I also teach others how to be more productive and get more done in less time.

I’m most proud of being awarded “Transformational Coach of the Year of 2022” by Brave Thinking Institute and getting to share the speaking stage with Les Brown’s son in 2021 in Atlanta Georgia at the Motivational Speaker Summit. There are tons of other people who have been life coaching for years. In fact, there were just over 250 other coaches that could have won that award. Even though I am very new to the game, I feel like I have been life coaching for years, so I’m super grateful to be recognized with such an amazing award.

What sets me apart from others is that I’m not just another personal trainer or that I’m not just another life coach. I don’t just work the part; I live it every single day. What I lack in formal education I make up for tenfold in life experience. As Les Brown likes to say, “I know a thing a two because I have been through a thing or two.”

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories was playing video games with my older brother. We had a solid relationship back when we were kids and still have a good relationship now, but as we grew older, he got into music, and I got into sports. Not to mention he still lives in NJ. Video games I felt were the common grounds that brought us together, and I miss that bond.
