Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Gleim.
Hi Jacob, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey in wedding filmmaking began in 2015. What started as a creative pursuit gradually grew into a business as I gained experience, refined my style and learned every part of the process—from filming and editing to client communication and running a team.
In 2022, I launched SD Wedding Films with the goal of creating beautiful, story-driven wedding films while keeping the experience straightforward and stress-free for couples. Growth happened one wedding and one referral at a time. I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside some incredibly talented people, and my wife, Christina, now plays a major role in the business as our studio director, lead editor and photography lead.
Today, our team serves couples throughout Southern California and Central Texas, and collectively we’ve captured more than 700 weddings. Although the company has grown from a one man band to a team of twelve, our focus is still the same: treat every wedding as the deeply personal occasion it is and create something each couple will genuinely value for the rest of their lives.
Getting here wasn’t an overnight success story. It came from years of long weekends, constant learning, adapting to challenges and finding better ways to serve our couples. I’m proud of how far we’ve come, but I’m even more excited about what we’re continuing to build.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. Growing from a one-man operation into a team of twelve brought challenges around maintaining consistency, improving communication and making sure every couple received the same level of care regardless of who was capturing their wedding.
The biggest lesson we’ve learned is that success begins with understanding what is genuinely important to our clients—not simply what we, as artists, believe should be important. That requires listening closely to each couple’s wants and needs, setting aside our own assumptions and putting their priorities first.
We care deeply about the artwork we create, but a beautiful final product is only one part of what couples remember. They also remember how clearly we communicated, how comfortable we made them feel and whether they felt heard throughout the process. Our artwork will always be important to us, but the overall client experience is paramount. Learning that has shaped nearly every decision we make as a company.

SD Wedding Films specializes in wedding photography and cinematography, serving couples throughout Southern California and Central Texas. Our style blends cinematic storytelling with a natural, documentary approach. We want the finished work to feel beautiful and intentional, but still honest to the people and moments that made the day unique.
We’re especially known for creating emotional, story-driven wedding films without turning the wedding itself into a production. Our team focuses on helping couples feel comfortable, allowing moments to unfold naturally and preserving everything from the major milestones to the smaller interactions they may not have witnessed themselves.
One thing that sets us apart is the amount of the wedding we preserve. Along with an edited film, our couples receive their ceremony, speeches and special dances in full length, plus footage from throughout the rest of the day. We believe the polished film and the complete memories serve different purposes, and both become increasingly valuable over time.
What I’m most proud of is that even after growing from a one-man operation into a team of twelve and capturing more than 700 weddings, we’ve remained focused on the individual experience of each couple. We’re proud of the artwork we create, but we’re equally proud of being responsive, dependable and easy to work with. Our goal isn’t simply to deliver beautiful photos and films—it’s to give couples an experience that makes them feel heard, cared for and confident from their first conversation through final delivery.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I’ve never considered luck to be a major part of my story. There wasn’t one fortunate break, influential connection or sudden opportunity that changed everything. Whatever success I’ve experienced came through determination, hard work and a willingness to risk everything on the belief that I could build something worthwhile.
There were certainly moments when the easier and safer decision would have been to stop, but I kept moving forward—often without any guarantee that the time, money or energy I was investing would pay off. I learned through mistakes, adapted when things didn’t work and continued showing up when progress felt painfully slow.
Of course, I’m grateful for every couple who trusted us and every talented person who became part of our team. Those relationships created opportunities, but it still took years of work to be prepared for them and turn them into something lasting.
If luck played any role, it may have been in placing the right people in my path at the right time. But the business itself wasn’t built on luck. It was built by repeatedly choosing persistence over comfort and being willing to bet on a future that, at the time, only I could see.
