Check Out Jake Davis’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jake Davis

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in a small town called Susanville in California. In 2015 I was looking for more opportunity to start band and pursue music, so I moved to San Diego and lived with my aunt and uncle until I got on my feet. In 2018 I moved out to Imperial Beach where I had met my guitar player Chris. We started by writing acoustic alternative/Emo music for a couple years until we decided we wanted to start writing and performing with a full band. In late 2018 we released our first full band project called “Lost Journal Entries.” This project was comprised of two re-imagined versions of our most popular acoustic songs on our previous acoustic EP. In early 2019 we added Robert to the band and began writing and recording what would be our full length record “Subtle Worth.” In 2022 Subtle Worth was released and we really started focusing on playing shows and developing a local fan base and making friends in the local scene in the San Diego area. In 2023 we released an acoustic ep comprised of reimagined versions of songs from our full length record Subtle Worth, called Brooktree Sessions. In 2024 we released our most successful single to date called Colorblind.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I feel like outside of having some lineup troubles in late 2022/2023 our journey has been pretty smooth. One reason I think I enjoy this band is because everyone in the band knows how to just enjoy the experience of pursing music. We all have similar goals so it makes being able to make bigger decisions a bit easier and quicker. I tend to take to long to write my parts for songs. That has been an issue as of late.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Being the lyricist and vocalist for Ikana has been amazing has given me so opportunities that I viewed as “out of reach” just 10 years ago. Releasing our full length record “Subtle Worth.” is my proudest achievement. That moment in time was so much fun.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
That the music we release is authentic and something we would enjoy listening to.

And having fun. Once something stops becoming fun the quality of everything starts to crumble and no one wants that.
