Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerry Trueba
Jerry, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Jerry Trueba, and I’m the founder of Trusitemedia, a web and graphic design business I started in 2022. I’m originally from a small town called Calexico, CA, and moved to San Diego in 2015, bringing with me a lifelong love for drawing and design. As a kid, I was always sketching anything around me, and that passion grew into digital design as technology advanced.
After completing the Coding Bootcamp at UCSD and earning my Graphic Design certification, I decided to dive into my own business. Funny enough, web development was my least favorite project in the bootcamp, but things quickly changed when friends began asking me to design websites for their businesses. I found out I actually loved it and thought, “why not make this my business”.
That’s how Trusitemedia was born. The name combines “website” with the first three letters of my last name, “tru,” plus “media” to cover everything I offer—from custom websites and logos to custom graphics. Alongside running Trusitemedia, I also work full-time as a graphic designer and marketing coordinator for a property tax agency. It’s been a surprising journey, but I’m grateful for it, and I’m excited to keep helping businesses bring their ideas to life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s what makes the journey worthwhile. When I first started Trusitemedia, I faced all the typical new business challenges—finding clients, balancing my full-time job with freelance work, and learning a ton about both web and graphic design.
Since web development wasn’t my favorite at first, I had to put in extra time to get comfortable with it, especially when working on real projects for clients. Balancing everything was tough, but each challenge helped me grow and made Trusitemedia stronger. The ups and downs have definitely taught me a lot about resilience.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I create custom websites, logos, and graphics. I’m all about the details and making sure everything not only looks great but works well too.
Honestly, what I’m most proud of is the trust my clients have in me to bring their visions to life. I think what sets me apart is that I take the time to get to know each client’s story, so every project feels like a true reflection of them. It’s not just about making things look good—it’s about making something that feels right for each unique business.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
When it comes to apps, I pretty much use them all! Adobe Creative Cloud is my go-to for design work, but I’m always on the lookout for new tools to stay ahead. With AI advancing so quickly, I’ve started using ChatGPT, Leonardo AI, Envato, and other apps that help me in different areas of my work. As for books or podcasts, I’m more of a video learner—I usually watch tutorials or how-to videos to pick up new skills or get inspiration for specific projects.
