Today we’d like to introduce you to Jingyao Wang
Hi jingyao, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hi, I’m Jing, a model based in Los Angeles. My journey into modeling stems from a lifelong dream to bring artistry to life through visual storytelling. I’ve always believed every garment and piece of art carries its own spirit, and it’s my role to discover and express that essence. Modeling, for me, is a way to transform designs into meaningful narratives, using my presence to communicate emotions that words often cannot.
Choosing this path felt natural, as it allowed me to connect deeply with the creative process while contributing to the evolving dialogue of fashion. My work is driven by a passion for diversity, representation, and innovation, and I approach each project with a commitment to authenticity. This philosophy has shaped my career and continues to inspire me to push boundaries, tell compelling stories, and celebrate individuality in every form.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This path has been anything but easy. Coming from a background in Economics, I stepped into the modeling world without any formal training, connections, or industry guidance. Starting from scratch, I had to build my foundation through relentless trial and error, constantly challenging myself to learn and adapt to an unfamiliar environment.
Without prior experience or a network to rely on, self-doubt was a frequent companion. My passion, however, fueled my determination to persevere, even when faced with rejection or setbacks. I learned to view each obstacle as a stepping stone, gradually building confidence and refining my craft.
Every challenge I encountered taught me resilience and the importance of growth through adversity. It also helped me develop a unique perspective that I bring to my work, one that values not only creativity but also the lessons gained through persistence. Those early struggles became the bedrock of my career, shaping my identity as a model and as an artist.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a model, my role goes beyond simply showcasing clothing—it’s about embodying the vision behind every design and giving it a voice through movement and expression. What distinguishes my work is my ability to approach each piece as a story waiting to be told, interpreting its essence and bringing it to life in a way that feels authentic and intentional. Unlike robots, human beings are born with a soul and passion, and it is this depth that allows us to create and connect on a profound level.
I specialize in versatility, effortlessly transitioning between high-concept editorial shoots and more grounded, lifestyle-driven campaigns. To me, fashion is a medium where art, culture, and individuality converge. Each project provides an opportunity to explore these intersections, revealing the deeper layers of human creativity and innovation.
What I take the most pride in is my dedication to authenticity. By deeply connecting with the clothing I wear, I aim to create visuals that resonate emotionally and intellectually. I approach my work as a collaboration—between designer, model, and audience—striving to ensure every piece feels personal and impactful. This mindset has allowed me to stand out in an ever-evolving industry, carving a space that reflects my passion for storytelling and inclusivity.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
One of the most influential resources for me has been ‘Story Teller’ by Tim Walker, which showcases the extraordinary work of one of the most visionary photographers of our time. Tim Walker’s artistry transcends traditional boundaries, blending surrealism with meticulous craftsmanship to create images that are as thought-provoking as visually stunning.
What I admire most about Tim Walker is his fearless pursuit of imagination. His work doesn’t simply document moments—it creates worlds, each infused with emotion, wonder, and meaning. This has deeply shaped my modeling approach, inspiring me to view every project as an opportunity to craft a narrative that goes beyond aesthetics.
If Tim Walker is my framework, another app, Pinterest, is the branches and leaves of the big tree. It constantly provides me with a wealth of inspiration, especially through old magazines from the 19th and 20th centuries. These archives have helped me learn and understand the fashion industry more deeply, offering a treasure trove of ideas
As a model, I aim to infuse the same depth and intentionality into my work, ensuring it resonates on a deeper level. Both Tim Walker and Pinterest fuel my broader creative aspirations, encouraging me to continuously explore new artistic possibilities.
