Today we’d like to introduce you to Jodie Bliss Armer.
Hi Jodie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My son Heath was schizophrenic and sadly lost his life to a fentanyl overdose while living on the streets. We fought tirelessly to help him in every way possible, but despite our efforts, we were defeated. Each time we were able to bring him home for treatment, my greatest joy was feeding him meals filled with nourishment and love.
With my background in the culinary field-as a former catering business owner and personal chef- I knew how much it meant to him. He would often rave about the flavors and how comforting the meals were. For those experiencing homelessness, good quality food is rare, and I saw firsthand how much dignity and hope a simple, lovingly prepared meal could provide.
In his memory, I wanted to extend the same love and nourishment to others who are struggling.
That’s how Small Potatoes Foundation was born.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey to build and execute on my desire to help those on the streets has not been smooth. Thankfully my determination to create Small Potatoes was guided by many individuals who have experience in the field. As a chef and designer the sourcing of equipment and food was not challenging what has been a challenge is the funding. I am not a person who is comfortable asking others for help.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve always been creative. I have been a working artist in a Gallery, chef & interior designer
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My husband has been my biggest cheerleader
