Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Chesner.
Hi Jonathan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Well….extremely fortunate to be born and raised in San Diego. Grew up surfing around La Jolla and was able to get into USC for college. A good friend/semi-mom growing up happened to be a talent agent and asked if I wanted to earn any money while up at school in Los Angeles.
Long story short, I ended up on a few tv shows and commercials, which I was able to leverage to get a self-help book published for young adults with ADHD (shout out to all my special brains!).
The acting stuff happened by circumstance so since then, I’ve tried my hand at a few different things… I became licensed as a stockbroker, got a patent for a medical device, and became a paramedic. The past few years, I’ve been a lifeguard up in North County and loving it. Right now, my focus is on launching a company involving skincare called Handsome Sauce.
In my spare time, I do an Instagram weather report under the handle @nobaddaysweather. Beyond that, I’m working on learning to foil and golf. I have a lovely girlfriend, a bigger little brother, two family dogs, and great parents.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Ohhh…..certainly not. I’ve had some ups and downs. I look at things through the lens of my faith and I feel like every rough patch is an opportunity to grow and watch God make a few flowers out of some dog poop. I think like a lot of young people, I had a tough time connecting to my peer group when I was little. I’ve had a few relationship heartbreaks along the way. Most recently, I had a pretty decent career setback before covid.
But…I think I’m in a pretty good spot and at the end of the day all the speed bumps have helped give me perspective and turned me into the person I am today. Overall, I try to remember that even on my worst days, I have so much to be grateful for.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
So….at the present moment, I make a little weather Instagram under the handle @nobaddaysweather. We make little jokes about the weather and try to keep it fun and light when reporting on the climate of a town that has some of the most consistently good weather in the world.
I’m also set to launch Handsome Sauce. Our flagship product is a moisturizer that I created after not being really satisfied with what’s on the market. It’s got organic ingredients, it’s effective, and it leaves a non-greasy finish.
I’m also a lifeguard, that’s lots of fun. I get to work at the beach with friends. We get to help people. It keeps me active and in shape….and I’m not behind a desk.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Things that make me happy…. 4-6ft glassy beach break with nobody but my friends out.
Getting off a plane in a foreign country.
Laughing over good food with friends and family.
A nice conversation with God while alone in my car.
Australian licorice from Trader Joes.
But I’m also working on trying to stay happy regardless of things. The surf is more crowded than it’s ever been, housing prices are ridiculous, and it seems like every day there are more idiots in the world. So I’m constantly trying to not let my happiness be rooted in “things” or circumstances. It’s tough but doable.
