Check Out Jonny Moreno’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonny Moreno.

Hi Jonny, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey began as a heavier set kid, and in 2008, I made a decision that changed my life forever. I knew I needed a lifestyle change. I poured hours into the gym, watched tons of YouTube videos, and embraced a lot of trial and error. Slowly but surely, I saw the physical and mental transformations happening. I felt stronger, more confident, and more alive than ever before. That experience ignited a passion in me to help others discover what I had discovered for myself.

In 2014, I became a certified personal trainer, I was eager to share this journey and inspire others to unlock their potential. But I quickly realized that working for corporate gyms often meant becoming more of a salesperson than a trainer and that didn’t sit right with me. I knew I wanted to do things differently. I sort of gave up on my dreams then.

Fast forward to 2018, I pivoted my career and took a role as a formulation chemist at a biotech company here in San Diego. Over the next six years, I reached a comfortable place earning a six-figure income, buying a home, getting married, and having two beautiful kids. But despite these blessings, I felt unfulfilled. I felt like I was meant to do more.

From 2015 to 2022, I trained people for free in my spare time because I genuinely loved it. It was my passion, my purpose. One day, a friend I was training asked why I didn’t turn this passion into a business. That question sparked a fire in me. I set a five year plan to launch my own personal training business by 2027 and to open my own gym here in San Diego by 2030.

I dedicated myself to acquiring certifications like CPT, CNC, and CSCS, diving deep into research, anatomy, and biomechanics. My focus now is on Sports performance and women’s health at all stages of menopause, especially peri and post menopause. Women’s health means a lot to me because I am surrounded by beautiful Women in my life like my mom, younger sister, wife, and now daughter.

In November 2024, my 5 year plan was cut short due to high stress from a leadership situation that I felt was unjust. I made a bold decision, I quit my job after 6 years at the company and started my own business, Peak Fitness Lab. The support I received on social media from friends and family was overwhelming and humbling.

As of June 2025, I have 13 clients, plus a weekly class at North County Soccer Park in Poway. My business is thriving beyond my expectations, and I’m just getting started. While I’m not yet earning as much as I did in my corporate role, I’m making enough to support my family, and more importantly, I’m spending more quality time with my loved ones.

This journey has shown me that when you pursue what you love, stress and fear melt away. I get to prioritize my health, be present with my family, and do work that truly fulfills me. I hope my story inspires someone out there to take a chance on their dreams because if you’re willing to put in the work, I truly believe everything is possible.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has definitely had its challenges, but overall, I would say it’s been a smooth journey. Starting my own business in November 2024 was a big leap, and I know there will be more struggles ahead as I continue to grow. However, I can honestly say I haven’t faced any major hurdles yet.

One of the reasons I’ve been able to stay focused is because I knew I couldn’t afford to fail, I have a family to support, and that responsibility keeps me motivated every single day. I’ve been putting in long hours, especially when it comes to marketing, networking with other local businesses here in Ramona, and constantly studying to improve my knowledge and skills.

It’s not always easy balancing everything, but I believe that perseverance, and dedication have carried me through so far. I understand that challenges will come, but I’m committed to facing them head on and learning from each experience. The most important thing is that I’m doing what I love, and that keeps me going even during the tough times.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Great question! I’m a personal trainer who runs a private gym out of my garage here in Ramona, CA. I hold certifications in Personal Training, Nutrition Coaching, and Strength & Conditioning, which allows me to provide a holistic approach to health and wellness.

Right now, I specialize in women’s health, particularly supporting women through all stages of menopause, helping them understand the importance of strength training for their overall health, and quality of life. My focus is on guiding women safely and effectively so they can enjoy a healthier and more empowered life well into their later years.

What I’m most proud of is the relationships I’ve built and the positive impact I’ve seen in my clients’ lives. I believe what sets me apart is my genuine passion for empowering women and my personalized approach. I take the time to understand each individual’s unique needs and goals, creating tailored programs that fit their lifestyles.

My dedication to education and safety, combined with a deep care for my clients’ well being, is what truly makes my work meaningful. At the end of the day, I’m not just helping people get stronger physically, I’m helping them gain a better quality of life.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about San Diego is definitely the weather, it’s just unbeatable and makes everyday life so enjoyable. I also really appreciate how close we are to everything, I can drive just a short distance to the beach, the mountains, the desert, or even to go snowboarding.

Living on the outskirts, I’ve noticed that the people here tend to be even friendlier and more welcoming, which adds to the sense of community I love about San Diego. It’s a special place that offers endless opportunities for adventure and connection.
