Today we’d like to introduce you to Joy Walk
Hi Joy Walk, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Joy Walk started originally as a side project for frontman Kaiden Luna de la Fuente and guitarist Alex Brown, first playing in the band Wax Bums. With education conflicts leaving their first band without a singer, Kaiden moved from the drums to the guitar and vocals, reforming the lineup to what it currently is today. Through a few name changes and membership changes, Joy Walk was officially formed in January 2023 and consists of Kaiden Luna de la Fuente on vocals and rhythm guitar, Alex Brown on lead guitar, Joshua Camerino on bass, and Armando Reith-Medina on drums. Three out of the 4 band members (Kaiden, Josh, Alex) have been playing music together since they first picked up instruments, which has provided a lot of valuable cohesion to this project. Throughout the past year, Joy Walk has released 4 total singles with a fully fledged EP to be released in May.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Overall the road has been pretty smooth, but as with all things there are moments that you can deem as “struggles”. Landing on the current lineup of Joy Walk was a bit of a journey, as our current bassist was a later addition to the band, but once he joined everything has been smooth sailing and our chemistry has been incredibly cohesive.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Joy Walk is a 4 piece Alternative Indie Rock band from San Diego, California. Our sound draws inspiration from a wide variety of genres and styles that come together to create a sound that is nostalgic yet fresh in the scene. As a collective, our members come from different backgrounds and musically have very different interests which has helped us take that inspiration and form it into a unique sound that works to set us apart.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Risk taking is super important, especially in music. Not to say that we have taken any major, game changing risks, we are consciously trying to make decisions that go a little against the grain to keep our sound and style interesting for new listeners.
