Today we’d like to introduce you to Juan Eduardo and Lozano Poeter.
Hi Juan and Lozano, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I decided to go back to school in spring of 2019 to become a Marriage and Family Therapist. I felt that I was meant to create something big. My mom had told me that I should become a therapist when I was a freshman in college. The approach I want to take towards healing is to blend western and eastern approaches. I want to include yoga, breath, energy healing such as reiki, acupressure, and marma to help unlock a person’s mind + body + soul. I used the pandemic to immerse myself in these modalities and learn natural techniques that were once used hundreds of years ago. I am close to obtaining my license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), and I am working on opening my private practice. I want to share my knowledge and approaches in a setting where sessions can take place at the beach surfing, hiking, at parks, as well as in a closed and safe setting.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been an amazing journey! I love the struggle because it bring something within me that I did not know I had. I am learning to be patient and trust the process. I know that there are necessary steps that have to be taken in order to make my dream come true. The use of energy-heating techniques such as reiki, acupressure, marma are modalities new to most people. The “sit down and talk about your traumas” approach is in its last moments. There is so much healing when you go below the surface and work with one’s energy or prana. Breathing and yoga help us work through the deep underlying issues that out body stores at the subconscious level.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work at a mental health facility called MHC San Diego. I work with clients with a variety of mental health disorders as well as substance abuse. I have worked in this field for 2 years now. Prior to working in this field, I sent 4 years working with moderate to severe clients with mental health disorders. Working with clients who were non-verbal forced me to connect with them at an energetic and soulful level. With the addition of teaching yoga where the ability to read the energy of a group and be able to adapt your flow on the fly, has helped me connect with clients in ways that is amazing.
During COVID, I had to do a lot of internal work. I was going through a lot in my life in a personal, professional, and relationship level. What a better time to do it when everything was closed, huh? The internal work continues, and it will never stop. I faced demons that I had ran away, and deal with inner-child issues that I have been dismissing for a long time. I am more than happy to elaborate more on this in person.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Living a life where I can be the best version of myself to my partner, my family, and friends. I shied away from m authentic self for far too long. When I am my authentic self-life is so beautiful and amazing! I am my authentic self when I love myself. I love myself when I am helping others, when I teach yoga, when I hold space, when I practice yoga, when I surf when I meditate when I travel when I read a book. My mantra is, “Live with your eyes clothes, and you heart open.”
