Today we’d like to introduce you to Jynod Mitchell.
Hi Jynod, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started cutting hair when I was in the 5th grade. During that time single mom of 4 kids 2 boys we weren’t frequently visiting the barbershop.. so one day I purchased a box set clipper combo from Wal-Mart. I felt confident enough to try and cut my own hair. From the start I wasn’t good but I enjoyed the process and that kept me consistent. I would get practice cutting my brother aswell. So through the years I continued to provide self cuts and perfect the craft. After managing sneaker stores for several years I eventually made my to barber school back in 2016. I attended urban barber school in san diego full-time 1 year program with 1500 hrs . After completing the course I worked at urban cutz in lemon grove until covid hit. Urban cutz is where I was able to learn the basics of being a barber and barbershop owner. I was able to be consistent and work hard and build a clientele. In May 5th 2020 just a little over a month after covid I opened my very own shop klipzandkickz in north park.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest hurdle was starting a business during a pandemic.
Trying to service the many military that we have in san diego and nurses while still being safe.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I cut hair on a daily basis at klipzandkickz barbershop and I specialize in fresh clean tapers and fades. I’m known for giving some of the freshest haircuts in the city and being very personable. I’m most proud of the relationships that I’ve established and mentorship i have to help my clients physical appearance mental health and giving sound advice
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people don’t know that I’m currently enrolled in sandiego city college
