Check Out Katherine Arciniega’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Arciniega

Hi Katherine, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Im originally from Ma where I got my degree in Early childhood education. I then went on to get my principal license thinking that was the direction I wanted to go in after teaching for a bit. A “bit” turned into 13 years and I decided that rather than become a principal I’d rather open my own school- and thus De Colores Preschool was started! I opened the school in Oct 2023 after the birth of my son-I knew I didn’t want to go back to work 7am-5pm anymore but I wanted to work with children still and this was the perfect way to engage with the community, offer quality schooling opportunities for families, and still have my son with me.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Opening the school itself was the easy part- Having come from kindergarten classrooms for the past decade I felt confident that I knew what families were looking for in a school. The tricky part for me has been the marketing component, like getting the De Colores Preschool name out there and getting families to email with interest. I’m trying to be better about instagram posting and engagement and I was so excited to get the email invite from SDVoyager magazine! I’m hoping this article reaches local North Park families who are looking for childcare

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At De Colores Preschool I work with children ages 15 months to 4.5 years old in a small classroom setting. Our activities are open ended and process focused rather then product focused, which allows the children to explore and create based on their interests. We offer various activities each day that are geared towards creativity and exploration while still building the skills and foundation children will need to be successful in TK and Kindergarten.
Unlike many other schools/childcare options in the area, De Colores Preschool has veteran teachers working with the children and rather then a daycare feel we offer a more “school like” experience. Additionally we offer families the flexibility to choose which schedule works for them rather then dictated a two day schedule must be T/TH for example.

Pricing:

  • 2 days/week $800
  • 3 days/week $1080
  • 4 days/week $1300
  • 5 days/week $1700
