Today we’d like to introduce you to Kickxy Vixen.
Hi Kickxy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Kickxy Vixen, I’m a drag queen / female impersonator here in San Diego. I’ve been doing drag for about 15 years, 10 of those years it’s been my full time job and career. I started with my love for cosplay and love for comics, pop culture, films and over all fun nerdy stuff. My drag eventually evolved and I have a love for celebrity impersonation. I realized I can actually transform my face to different characters. It’s almost like I’m the mutant Mystique from the X-MEN (LOL)
I got my start working at the front door at Richs San Diego. I then was asked to become the main DIVA of San Diego DIVAS. I learned a lot coproducing that show for a few years. Covid hit and some shows didn’t return but I had already started my Bubbles for Brunch at Urban MO’s so when we returned from Covid I had my brunch show I was able to put my energy in to. I was also asked by Chad Michaels to join The Dreamgirls Revue and it was an honor to join such a prestige and the longest running drag show of Southern California. I was also asked to start my own shows in Palm Springs at Toucans Tiki Lounge so I have a show there Saturday and Sunday nights . I also have been asked to start a Sunday brunch at “Witch Creek Winery” in Carlsbad. I’m blessed to do what I love full time.
My husband is a huge support in my drag career. He not only keeps me from over spending on outfits (lol) but also helps me with travel, rhinstoning outfits , and over all hold my hand as we navigate through this drag world of shows.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The struggles come with finding a balance between your life as an entertainer and not forgetting the guy under all the makeup. Also some queens can have negative energy towards you for having success and that can sometimes feel hurtful. Having to make tough decisions as a producer of shows can sometimes feel isolating.
I did lose my mom to Covid so returning to do shows with a heavy heart was a struggle that I had to overcome.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a full time Drag Queen. I specialize in producing shows, hosting, and a makeup chameleon. I’m known for my high and loving energy on stage. I’m proud of doing this job without being a RuPauls Drag Race Queen full time. I’m a huge Christina Aguilera fan and I was crowned on national TV on “Watch What Happens Live” by my queen as the best Christina impersonator. I think what sets me apart is that I truly put my heart on stage and try to share my light and love to the audience and my work ethic is also somthing that sets me apart.
Any big plans?
I hope to keep growing, to keep challenging myself with different shows and just keep bringing some fun drag therapy. I would love to one day own my own Drag cabaret restaurant/bar. Maybe where I can be like Satarina from “The Bird Cage” movie. Lol .
