Check Out Meriah Davis’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meriah Davis.

Hi Meriah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My passion for supporting women through birth and postpartum began with my own journey into motherhood. Before pregnancy, I had already become very holistically minded, and I was fortunate to be guided by a wonderful Midwife and Naturopathic Doctor. She showed me that there is so much more to pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and motherhood than what we typically see in the mainstream. That perspective resonated deeply with my heart and soul.

I first became a birth doula because I absolutely loved birth, and supporting mothers felt like a true calling. I believe this season of life is sacred—it deserves to be honored, and women should feel deeply loved and supported. After a few years, my focus shifted toward placenta encapsulation. I had experienced the benefits firsthand after both of my children were born, and I knew I wanted to make that option available to other mothers. I pursued the necessary training and certifications to establish my business.

After going through a divorce, I had to step away from doula work, as being on call wasn’t realistic while raising two young children on my own. Placenta encapsulation became a way to stay connected to the work I love while building something sustainable for my family. The business side was a learning curve—especially marketing—but I dedicated my free time to figuring it out little by little.

I’ve now been serving families in San Diego County since 2015, though it wasn’t until 2021 that things truly began to take off. Each year since then, I’ve continued to grow, with more clients and referrals than the year before. Today, I’m proud to say I’ve built a reputation rooted in professionalism, authenticity, and genuine care. Every single review I’ve received is five stars, and I think that reflects the heart I pour into my work.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road. There were definitely a lot of learning curves, especially around marketing and figuring out how to consistently reach clients. In the early days, I wasn’t making much money while I was learning the business side of things, but I stayed committed because I believed in the work. Having the support of my current husband has also been a huge factor—he’s helped make raising kids and managing life so much easier, which gave me the space to really focus on building this business into something successful.

Because placenta encapsulation is such a unique service, most of my clients come through referrals or online searches. I don’t run ads—not only because of FDA regulations that limit what claims can be made about natural healing, but also because I want my clients to find me intentionally. I prefer to connect with families who are open and aligned with this type of care, rather than trying to convince anyone.

One of the biggest challenges has been navigating cultural attitudes, especially during the Covid years. That time created a lot of hostility, judgment, and even discrimination toward people who value medical freedom, natural approaches, and informed choice. It was emotionally challenging, and honestly, it left me with some lingering trauma and hesitations about openly sharing what I do. But at the same time, it strengthened my commitment to the like-minded families who seek me out. I’m not here to change anyone’s mind—I simply want to support those who resonate with my work.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I like to say that I am “Mama Love,” because that’s the heart of everything I do. I genuinely care about the families I serve, and I want each client to feel that love and support in every interaction with me.

In practice, my work is very specialized. I pick up placentas from women who have just given birth, then carefully clean, dehydrate, grind, and encapsulate them into capsules. My fee is all-inclusive—I personally handle pickup and drop-off so families don’t have to think about logistics in those tender early days. My goal is always to make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible.

What sets me apart is that I go above and beyond to create a meaningful experience. Along with the capsules, I offer five optional complimentary gifts: an umbilical cord keepsake, a tree-of-life print, an essential oil spray, a placenta tincture, and an e-book for new moms with natural remedies. I also share resources, referrals, and recommendations whenever I can, so mothers feel truly supported on their journey.

I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built with my clients and the trust they place in me. This isn’t just a service—it’s a calling. I love the mamas I work with, and my deepest intention is that they feel cared for, honored, and empowered as they step into motherhood.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The qualities that have been most important to my success are professionalism and genuine care. I want every client to know that their safety and well-being come first. Sanitation is my highest priority, and I hold certifications in Placenta Encapsulation, Food Handling for San Diego, and OSHA compliance for Bloodborne Pathogens. The truth is, sanitizing actually takes the most time in this process—but it’s worth it to ensure the highest standards for both my clients and my family.

Beyond safety, I never want my clients to feel like “just another sale.” I strive to show them that I truly care, and I love being able to share extra insights, resources, and support that go above and beyond simply making their capsules. That combination of professionalism and heartfelt care is what I believe has made my business thrive.
