Today we’d like to introduce you to Miranda Logan
Hi Miranda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Our Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Penny was born on Christmas Eve 2022. In February 2023, my fiancé and I flew to Kansas City to bring her home to San Diego. We immediately started capturing her puppy antics on camera. What began as casual photo sharing with friends quickly grew into something bigger as other dog lovers began following Penny’s adventures.
When we first brought Penny home, we were living in an apartment in La Jolla. We’d take her on walks along the cove and to local coffee shops like Parakeet Cafe and Blue Whale, where the baristas knew her by name. The neighborhood was perfect for a growing puppy with its quiet streets and dog-friendly atmosphere.
Last year, we moved into our first house in Point Loma, opening up a whole new world of adventures for Penny. Now she enjoys exploring Sunset Cliffs, meeting her friends in the local neighborhood park, and walking along the water on Shelter Island. The move gave her more space to run and play, plus a backyard where she can sun tan all day.
Our posts about introducing Penny to San Diego life – from La Jolla’s pristine beaches to Point Loma’s stunning views – resonated with people. Before we knew it, we had built a community of fellow dog enthusiasts. We shared our training experiences, both successes and challenges, and learned from others along the way. The community became a place to exchange tips and celebrate milestones together. What started as simply documenting our puppy’s life turned into meaningful connections with dog lovers everywhere, all centered around our little Toller’s journey in the best city in the US.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Training a puppy requires a lot of patience and time. We were lucky to both work from home when Penny was a puppy and were able to enroll her in training classes right away. The trickiest part about raising Penny was discovering what her food allergies were. it took many rounds of trial and error and eventually an expensive allergy test to determine exactly what kind of food Penny needs to be eating. Turns out, she’s allergic to almost everything!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love creating fun and lighthearted content with Penny that relate our experience to many other dog parents. We also love traveling the state of California, so showcasing Penny in different environments has been such a fun adventure for us. She’s run alongside the beaches in La Jolla and also scaled mountains in the snow in South Lake Tahoe!
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
People want to engage with content online that offers a pocket of peace and joy. Penny is such a good pup with so much personality, so I’ve learned the content that performs best for us is content that just shows her in her natural element in a way thats relatable for other dog owners.
