I started with Tooth Gems, which felt like a natural transition given my nearly 30-year background as an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant. One day, my daughter called me up and asked if I knew what Tooth Gems were. I laughed and said, “Of course! Those were big in the ‘90s.” She told me they were making a comeback and suggested I start offering them as a side hustle. That was almost four years ago, and she was absolutely right!
About a year into the business, I realized I wanted to expand beyond just Tooth Gems. That’s when I discovered Permanent Jewelry—a service that could reach a broader audience and complement what I was already offering. Three years ago, I officially added it to my business, and it’s been a perfect fit ever since.
A few years ago, I had a moment of clarity during a tough mental health period. I knew I needed to make changes to reduce stress, so I made the decision to leave my dental career and go all in on my business. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! Now, I get to combine my expertise with creativity while helping people feel confident and stylish in a unique way.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—owning a business comes with its ups and downs. One of the biggest challenges in my industry is the need for a constant influx of new clients since repeat business is less frequent. Maintaining a steady income can be tough, so I’m always exploring new ways to grow and adapt.
When I first started, I would ask other business owners for one piece of advice, and the answer was always the same: Keep going. Don’t give up. That has stuck with me, and every time I feel uncertain, I remind myself to push forward and find new opportunities.
I’ve tried different approaches, from pop-ups—where I hustled for almost two years—to private events and parties, which I love. While pop-ups became too stressful, I’m now exploring the festival market to see how that fits. Right now, my local storefront in downtown Fullerton feels like the best fit, allowing me to build a strong presence in my community

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Some of my favorite childhood memories are the simple joys of spending time with my friends, laughing and making endless adventures out of nothing. Summers were especially special because I got to spend them with my cousins and grandparents. Whether it was big family gatherings, playing outside until the streetlights came on, or just sharing stories with my grandparents, those moments will always hold a special place in my heart.
