Today we’d like to introduce you to Nesli Ostrowski.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been an artist, creating beautiful things in one form or another. In the early years of my career, I explored many areas of photography — first started as a photojournalist. then moved onto industrial photography, from fashion shoots with makeup artists and stylists to model portfolios. I loved creating elaborate sets that was unreal and dreamy. But after becoming a mom, my work naturally evolved. While my kids were young, I focused on photographing babies, expectant mothers, and families, even creating boudoir portraits for moms. Even though I enjoyed creating memories for families, when my twins arrived, life shifted again, and I moved fully into product photography. I love creating images that showcase a product’s details and functionality in a heroic yet fun way. I’m especially drawn to the advertising side — making products look shiny and polished, but still real. As a consumer myself, I understand how essential strong visuals are in today’s market, and I bring that perspective into every shoot.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges in this business is that it’s not just about being a great photographer — you also have to understand how the market works and manage the business side of things. When you’re running your own business, it’s on you to make sure your work is being seen and that new clients are finding you. I’ve spent years building my online presence, and I’ve noticed that the moment I stop putting effort into it, the flow of new work slows down. The tricky part is balancing that with the actual work itself — when you’re busy delivering for current clients, it’s easy to let self-promotion slide, but that’s exactly when you need to keep your visibility up. It’s a constant juggle between doing the work you love and making sure there’s more work coming in.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a professional product photographer based in San Diego, specializing in creating clean, high-quality images that showcase a product’s details, functionality, and personality. I focus on the advertising side of photography — making products look polished, eye-catching, and market-ready, while still keeping them real and true to the brand. I’m known for my ability to capture that perfect balance of beauty and clarity, so the images not only look great but also sell the product.
I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve built a business that allows me to do what I love while also helping other businesses grow. I’ve been able to adapt my career through different stages of life, finding ways to keep my creativity alive while meeting the needs of my clients. It’s rewarding to see my images being used in campaigns, packaging, and online stores — knowing they play a role in a client’s success. Especially when I hear my photos are published in magazines all over the world or printed on billboards, I remember the “awe” I use to feel looking at advertisement photos in magazines and billboards as a little girl. It makes me feel like, I achieved what I intended to do.
I think what sets me apart is the combination of my artistic background and my understanding of today’s visual market as a consumer myself. I don’t just photograph a product — I think about how it will be perceived in advertising, how it fits the brand’s identity, and what will make it stand out among competitors. I also work in a streamlined, efficient way that delivers high-quality results without the overhead costs of a large studio, which allows me to keep my services accessible while maintaining top-tier quality.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me, success is when I’m able to create work that I’m proud of and that also serves a purpose for my clients. If my images help a product stand out, drive sales, or strengthen a brand’s identity, that’s success. It’s also about balance — being able to run a sustainable business, continue attracting the right clients, and still have the time and energy to enjoy life outside of work. Success, to me, is a mix of creative fulfillment, client satisfaction, and personal well-being. I love painting, playing a hand drum, spending time with my kids and being present in my own life. it took me years to understand it is ok to have slow times in the business, it gives you the opportunity to take a break and focus on yourself.
