Check Out Patricia Erskine’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Erskine.

Hi Patricia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I used to work in the construction industry until the year of 2008. At that time when the economy took a hit, I lost my job. I found myself a single mother of two young kids and jobless. It was a very difficult time for me as I had a lot of work experience, but I did not have a college degree. I had worked my way up in the construction industry and was making good money. But as I searched for a new job, I was overqualified due to my experience, but underqualified since I did not have a college degree. Eventually, I landed a secretarial position in the nursing department of a very large Orthodox nursing home in Ohio. This led me into the medical field. At one point, this nursing home decided to open its own private ambulance division. This led me down the path of becoming a paramedic. Once I became a paramedic, I followed a dream and moved across the country to Arizona. I was working as a paramedic in a Level One Trauma Center and Emergency Department when Covid hit. I also was in nursing school at that time. That is how I got involved in the mobile IV hydration business. I worked for two different companies in Arizona and ran between Tucson and Phoenix. I have put on a lot of miles and seen a lot of people. In March of 2021, I moved to San Diego. I started to run for a company out here. I did not like the way they treated their nurses, and I did not like how expensive it was for clients. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and open my own mobile IV hydration business. My company launched in September of this year. I service Northern San Diego County as well as Temecula, Murietta, Menifee, and Wildomar. I love being a registered nurse and I absolutely love helping people as well. I have always been a couponer at heart, so I also love helping people save money. I am privileged to serve so many types of people. I help as young as 12, and currently my oldest client is 94 years old. This industry really blew up with Covid. Originally it was known to simply treat hangovers. And it will do that, but now it is so much more. I treat Covid, colds, flu, nausea, morning sickness, migraines, dehydration, and so much more. What makes me stand out form other companies is that I have lower prices, absolutely no hidden fees, the easiest online scheduling, no cancellation fees, and I do not require a credit card to book. I aim to be the top mobile IV business in my service area.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It most definitely has not been a smooth road. California is one of the hardest states to open a company. This is the first time I am a business owner. And it is hard to rank with so many big players already in this industry. California has very particular laws and regulations when it comes to owning a medical business. Through this journey, I found out that company I used to run for was not even operating legally which ultimately would risk my nursing license which is my livelihood. I spent a decent amount of money for legal guidance, but it was worth every penny to make sure I am set up correctly. Again, there are a lot of IV companies now, but most of them are not operating legally.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am fortunate that I chose to become a paramedic prior to being a nurse. I have top-notch IV skills. My clients know that when I come into their homes that they are in good hands. If they are a “difficult stick”, they know I will be able to take care of them. In the two and a half + years I have been doing mobile IVs, I have never had to walk away and not be able to take care of the client. Not in the mobile business, but in the emergency room I was trained to do ultrasound IV’s as well as one of top paramedics to do difficult sticks. The youngest I have ever stuck was 2 months old and the oldest was 97 years old. I have stuck every body part with the exception of the forehead. As professional, my clients will testify that I am 100% in the right industry. I have been told they feel comfortable with me and I know that I am knowledgeable and confident. I am 51 years old, and this is a second career for me, so I have tons of experiences with people.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I am surprised this is a question. What’s not to like about San Diego? Absolutely nothing. The weather is amazing. We have the ocean!!! Remember I lived in AZ before this. There is a ton to do. I absolutely love the Safari Park and the Zoo. I have not had much time to explore different hikes, but I hope to in the future. You know what I love the most about San Diego. The fact that I can brag that I live here when my FB friends are posting how they vacation in San Diego.
