Today we’d like to introduce you to Rakiema Sellars-Pompey. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Rakiema T Sellars-Pompey is Teen-mother whose story is one of resilience and determination which wouldn’t allow her situation to dictate her future. She holds many titles: Nurse, Soldier, Speaker, Consultant, Author, and owner-operator of Lotus Drip Wellness Suite, a VIP Concierge IV Hydration & Vitamin Shot Bar service; Lotus Wellness Screening & Diagnostics, a Drug Collection & DNA testing lab; and Rakiema Sellars Consulting. In an effort to obtain those titles, Rakiema has proven to be a lifelong learner, receiving her Associate’s in Arts (AA) from Chaminade University 2003), Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Old Dominion University (2009), trained as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) since 2011, board certified in Emergency Nursing since 2013 and currently attending the University of San Diego’s Doctorate in Emergency Nurse Practitioner program, while concurrently serving on Active Duty.
With over 22 years of healthcare experience, Rakiema loves to educate and mentor nurses. Due to her unique story, Rakiema is requested to speak at various events. Of note: 2019 Essence of a Boss Conference, 2019 North Carolina School Counselor Conference, 2020 South Carolina School Counselor Conference, and the 2022 Las Vegas STEM Fair for Clark County School District.
Rakiema’s new book titled “A Nurses Journey to Entrepreneurship” Inspirational Stories as Told by Nurses is now available on Amazon and Kindle.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I continue to overcome challenges – from more strict criteria on who can order certain medical supplies, to gaining trust within the community, to delayed shipping thanks to supply chain issues, and weather-related issues cancelling events – because business ownership is similar to life. There will always be challenges. But I became a mother at the young age of 14. I know challenges.

The Lotus Drip Wellness Suite is a veteran-owned, luxury IV Hydration and Aesthetic business serving the San Diego area. We specialize in providing premium wellness services such as IV Hydration Therapy, Vitamin & Mineral shots, Microneedling (PRP), PCDC/Kybella/Mesotherapy, Hair Restoration with PRP, and Medically Supervised Weight Loss. It wasn’t the easiest road to get to this place. I’ve thought about owning my own business for a long time. As I mentioned earlier, I started the process in 2019. And even though I wasn’t working full time toward opening Lotus Drip, it was always lingering in my thoughts… what if? When is right time? Can I do this?
I finally jumped into it fully in 2021. I’ve learned there is no right time. There is simply right now.
My business is a reflection of who I am and I want the world to know who I am. I am a mother, daughter, soldier, nurse, and the owner-operator of Lotus Drip. I became a mother at the young age of 14, and many thought that would have a negative impact on my life. I understood the impacts of my decision and decided my son did not deserve to feel any negative impacts of my life choices. I never saw myself as a mother. I always envisioned myself as a successful businesswoman, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I am not saying that I made all of the right decisions as a teen mother, but I navigated life the best way I knew how.
