Check Out Sandy’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandy.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve loved photography for as long as I can remember. Even as a little kid, I’d find myself mentally freeze-framing moments — the way light hit a wall, or how someone’s expression told a story — as if I could save them for later. When I finally got my first camera, it felt like unlocking a world I’d already been seeing in my mind for years.

In 2010, my good friend Julia and I launched TwoCapture Photography in the Bay Area. We started the way most creatives do — shooting weddings, family portraits, and events for free, building a portfolio one shoot at a time. Those early days taught us not just about cameras and lighting, but about storytelling with the camera and connection with the clients.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of documenting so many milestones — engagements, weddings, growing families — and it’s been incredible to witness people’s lives evolve through my lens.

Today, my work has evolved into lifestyle photography, with a special focus on empowering women who are launching new businesses. I love helping them capture their essence through images that bring their brand to life across websites and social media. I’m also passionate about interior design, which naturally led me into photographing spaces — from cozy Airbnbs to thoughtfully designed homes. Whether it’s a person or a place, I’m always chasing that same spark of beauty and authenticity that first drew me to photography.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been mostly smooth sailing — aside from the occasional tricky client or an SD card that decided to quit mid-wedding. Every photographer learns this lesson exactly once: always get a camera with dual card slots, unless you enjoy a good mid-wedding panic. Thankfully, the occasional disaster makes for great stories — and even better backup discipline.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work spans engagements, weddings, family, lifestyle, and real estate photography — all rooted in the goal of capturing authentic energy and beautiful moments.

I’ve always believed that everyone and everything has a “best side/ best light,” and my job is to find it. Whether it’s a person mid-laugh or sunlight hitting a room just right, I love freezing those fleeting moments of beauty.

The thing I’m most proud of? Seeing people still using my photos years later — on their social media profiles, websites, or even framed in their homes. It’s the quiet reminder that something I created still makes them feel seen.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I’m really curious to see how AI will continue to shape the photography industry. Editing software like Lightroom and Photoshop has become incredibly advanced, making a photographer’s job so much easier — edits that used to take hours can now be done in seconds. There’s a lot of power in that, but it also means that anyone can easily apply filters or enhancements that once required real skill. Just think about how effortless it’s become to alter a selfie these days.

One area that gives me pause is headshot photography. I’m seeing more and more friends and colleagues use AI-generated portraits. On one hand, it’s fascinating to see how realistic and polished these tools have become. But on the other, something gets lost — the energy & soul behind someone’s eyes. And of course, it raises questions about how this might impact working photographers and the craft itself.
