Today we’d like to introduce you to Semaj Melson
Hi Semaj, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Semaj Melson,
I was born in Salinas California, September 3rd 1995
My mother is from Guadalajara Jalisco Mexico
My father is from Mississippi
I am of mixed descent and that is why I go by smashgoingglobal. my goal is to become an international superstar. Hence my motto “going global”
I am an actor, music artist, online comedian and model.
I started acting when I was 15 years old
I wanted to be just like Will smith from fresh prince.
Dave Chappell inspired me to do comedy
And the success of 50 cent in music and directing inspired me as well. I grew up less than wealthy to say the least me and my mother struggled for many years so a big city wasn’t in my plans. I was told of an opportunity to for a great deal on a new car so
I originally only came to San Diego to buy a car but A close friend convinced me to celebrate my birthday weekend in the city and that’s when I got my first taste of the beauty of San Diego. Coming from a small town I was astonished at many things San Diego had to offer, especially opportunities. On December 31 of 2021 I made the decision to take a one way flight and never looked back.
I faced some adversity at first, a few close family members had passed away within my first two months also I struggled to find work, my step father became extremely ill almost causing me to move back to Salinas to assist my mother but god had other plans I visited my family made sure they were okay and my gut told me I must return to San Diego. By march a was able to score a job downtown in Gaslap at a place called Chef’s SD. I started making more money than I ever have. I started networking with celebrities who I never thought I’d meet in my wildest dreams. I started to release my content on instagram and quickly gained popularity which gained the attention of my boss at the time Geoff Cole. Who went out of his way to introduce me to people in places that could help me reach my goals. I became a known face of downtown within my first year and in February of 2024 one of my videos hit 2.4 million views I began getting paid for my content, I started receiving modeling opportunities and made connections with DJ’s who played in the clubs of San Diego. With that being said, I’m still continuing my journey in San Diego,but no matter where god takes me this city will always have a special place in my heart.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I faced some adversity at first, I was told I would have a job at Sycucn casino but they never followed through. So I decided to apply at a dispensary who told me the interview went well that they would call me by Friday I didn’t receive a call and when I called them I got no answer. eager to gain employment I immediately applied at another one where I got the job. But unfortunately they called me to change my start date while I was on a trip to Tijuana. Where I didn’t receive the call but on their end it appeared to have went though. Unaware my start date had been changed I came ready to work on the original date where I was informed I was not going to be working there because I missed the new starting date. So my first month I made no income and my savings were almost depleted. I then got a job at a t mobile that was quite far but I needed a job.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an actor/director/model/online comedian/music artist/and instagram influencer. I am most proud of going viral and being able to monetize my content.
Most people know me as smashgoingglobal from instagram and for the infamous “dating in San Diego reel which is pinned to my instagram profile. I believe what sets me apart from others is my appearance, charisma, and versatility.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love many things about San Diego from the beautiful high rises in downtown gas lamp to the amazing beaches and great options of restaurants we have here. My favorite thing I must say is the people here, they have been so welcoming and willing to share their secrets to their successes.
What I like the least about San Diego is the highways, it can be very confusing even with gps.
