Check Out Shakyra Jordan Zaragoza’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shakyra Jordan Zaragoza

Shakyra Jordan , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Shakyra Jordan Zaragoza, owner of Shakyra Jordan Esthetics and I began my career as an Esthetician and Wax Specialist 6 years ago here in San Diego. When I was a little girl, I always had an eye for beauty, self care, and caring for my friends & family around me always asking if I could practice doing their makeup or I would always be applying my lipglosses in class sharing the newest beauty trends with the ones around me. After graduating from high school, I knew the “average” college experience wasn’t going to be for me which is when my sister, one of my biggest supporters, introduced me to the world of esthetics, I was amazed and I never looked back! I graduated from San Diego City College Esthetics Program and by spring of 2019 I was licensed and ready to follow my passion! Summer of 2019, I applied to many places and eventually landed my first job in the esthetics field as a waxer at a local San Diego business and was there for 3 1/2 years as a Lead Waxer. When things eventually took a turn for me, I knew I wanted better for me and my clientele I had built a strong bond with over the years and I knew not only I, but my clients also deserved better and I knew I had to make a change in order to continue loving what I do every day. Being from Chula Vista / South Bay, you rarely find beauty locations that offer what sola salons or phoenix salons do unless you drive more up north but after researching I came across BodyBarSD, the most women empowered salon.
After attending BodyBarSD as a client at first, I was blessed enough to have met the owner, Syra Sandez, and we immediately had the best bond! After a few appointments and getting to know each other she asked “what do you actually do for a living?” I responded with “I’m a waxer and esthetician…”, her response was “GIRL! I need a waxer here! We need YOU here!”. That was the first time in the 3 1/2 years of my career as an esthetician that I felt wanted. That was the change I needed. After so much back and fourth with myself, my family, and my closest friends, I decided to put my 2 week notice at the salon that started everything for me. Although I knew the work would be hard, starting a brand new business in a field that is so full of love but also so competitive, I knew that I had so much support starting this journey at BodyBarSD and I knew that I was ready for that challenge. That was when Shakyra Jordan Esthetics was born. July 6th of 2025 will be 3 years as a business owner and a solo esthetician and till this day it was the best decision I have ever made in my life. From the support of my family, friends, and all my beautiful clientele that have either been with me for 6 full years or the past 3 years, I have been able to grow so much, hit my 6 figure year and gain the confidence and love I had for my career as a esthetician that I had back when I was in school in 2018-2019. Being a Latina owned business, Chula Vista and South Bay are special places that stay very close to my heart and I knew from the start it would be a place within San Diego I would love to start my business in especially for girlies that were just like me. Shakyra Jordan Esthetics is just a start for me as a 26 year old Esthetician here in San Diego but I’m always striving for more and trust me when I say, one day it’ll be a salon name you won’t want to forget!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. When you have a business, you are working 24 hours a day, your mind wants to keep going. There has been many days full of tears, stress, and confusion but, every single one of them is worth it when you love what you do! When I first decided to rent as a solo esthetician, I had just started paying rent at home and I had a new car payment that I wasn’t sure if I would be able to pay because there were so many “what if’s” starting on my own but I knew I wasn’t the first nor the only business owner to ever feel like that.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve been an Esthetician for 6 years with my specialties being full body/brazilian waxing, skin lightening, brows, and facials. I would definitely say I’m most known for being a soft wax specialist as majority of my clientele book every 4-6 weeks for brazilian waxes! I recently started adding skin lightening to my service menu and have quickly fell in love with that as it makes such a difference for the girls that struggle with hyperpigmentation! Living in sunny San Diego you always want to feel beach ready and I always have my salon door open to help with those last minute needs! I never shy away from my clients so how I am in my day to day life is how I am in my treatment room, I have a love for talking to my clients and I will always offer them the support they need as they do with me. I not only do the smoothest waxes in Chula Vista but I also am an open ear for all the girls I get to service daily which has helped me to create the best bond with my clients that I’m forever the proudest of!

What matters most to you? Why?
Feeling comfortable in my space and to create an environment that is empowering, safe, and comfortable for everyone that walks through my studio door. Like many another’s, I’ve been that client at salons that I don’t feel great at or confident at and I knew from the start that I was going to set a different tone. Knowing that not only my services are top notch but that my clients are eager to drive to a salon that they feel their best at every appointment is what matters most to me!
