Today we’d like to introduce you to Stefanie Schroers.
Hi Stefanie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Hi, I’m Stef. I live in Vista, California, and I am a registered nurse by trade but have always had a love for design and décor from an early age. As a girl, I loved rearranging my room, curious to see all the same elements from a new perspective. Fast forward to today, where I have been married to my amazing husband for almost 13 years. We moved to Vista permanently 7 years ago after he was stationed at Camp Pendleton and was an active-duty Marine for 12 years. With so many moves around the country, I had a lot of practice furnishing and redecorating homes and fell in love even more with real estate and design. About a year and a half ago, we invested in a real estate syndication short-term rental in Coronado. Fortunately, the designer on the project knew my background and asked for my help designing the units. The property management company (Righteous Rentals) liked my work, and we have been collaborating on other rentals around San Diego ever since. I absolutely love helping people curate and create unique and livable spaces that they love. I’ve always been amazed at how spaces can evoke an array of emotions. That curiosity drove me to design residential homes and short-term rentals. I absolutely love what I do and the pure joy I receive when I see people enjoying the spaces and “experiences” I create.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road! Design comes easily, but starting and running a business does not come naturally to me. I have been learning on the job with trial and error of what works and doesn’t work for short-term rental properties. The décor and furniture need to be budget-friendly, high quality, and still look amazing for photographs. The short-term rental design business is a very unique niche with its own considerations.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an interior designer specializing in the short-term rental market! I have been helping people curate and create unique and livable spaces that they love. Telling a “vacation design story” in each room is what drives me. Creating that story involves knowing who your ideal guest is and what they want to see in the space. Each room of your home needs to radiate their story and vacation lifestyle. My design plans help you put it together beautifully.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love that San Diego is a diverse city. I have lived in several different areas throughout the country (originally from Minnesota), but San Diego feels like home. The people here have always been welcoming and friendly. The outdoor lifestyle, sunshine, and beach have my heart. It is both a big city with the perks of a small town, so if you want to hike in the mountains in the morning, sunbathe at the beach in the afternoon, and go out dancing at night, you can! I love bringing “San Diego” vibes and unique items from that particular city into the homes I am designing. What I like least about our city is the price of housing.
