Check Out Summer Kais’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Summer Kais.

Summer Kais

Hi Summer, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I first fell in love with photography at 16, when my uncle handed me a camera. Film was still dominant then, and every shot required patience and intention. I spent countless hours in the darkroom, fascinated by the process of turning ideas into tangible images. Behind the camera, my goal was always to capture something real and authentic in each person.

My passion for art led me to pursue a degree in Studio Art at UC Irvine, with a focus on photography. This gave me the freedom to explore and refine my skills, blending creativity with technical expertise. I eventually opened my studio in downtown San Diego, specializing in portraits and commercial photography.

As my work evolved, I took on a wider range of projects, from branding campaigns to more personal work. I also spent three transformative years in New York City, where the fast-paced creative scene broadened my perspective and storytelling approach. Today, I continue to evolve, collaborating with clients to bring their vision to life, whether in my downtown studio or on location.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not always been smooth, but each challenge taught me something valuable. Starting my business meant learning to balance the creative and business sides of photography.

My time in New York City pushed me to adapt to a fast-paced, competitive environment, which still influences how I work today. It taught me to stay open to new ideas while staying true to my creative vision.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in commercial and portrait photography with a focus on creating modern, authentic images with a clean, minimalist aesthetic that highlights each person’s individuality. I am most proud of the collaborative and comfortable environment I create for my clients, allowing their true selves to shine. This approach helps me produce visuals that are both impactful and genuine.

What makes you happy?
My greatest joy comes from connecting with people and creating something meaningful—work that tells a story or evokes emotion. I believe everyone carries something extraordinary, and my goal is to reveal that through my art.

My intention is to create images that are not merely seen but also felt, bringing together connection, emotion, and storytelling. As I continue to grow as an artist, I’m inspired to explore both the shared experiences that connect us and the unique differences that make us all beautiful. Through my work, I hope to highlight these connections and show how our common humanity and individual experiences can coexist in a way that fosters understanding and appreciation for each other.
