Check Out Tache May’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tache May.

Tache, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I got started in photography back in 2013 after graduating from Ball State University in video production. I had a camera for video and a friend asked me to take her photos. Now I didn’t really have much experience doing photography with my camera because I bought it for video purposes but I put my camera in auto mode, we went to the canal, and the photo shoot turned out amazing! So amazing that several people started asking who did my friend’s photos and that led to me gaining a few more clients but just enough to make it a side hustle. A few months later I had purchased a studio kit and made a home studio in a spare bedroom of my mom’s house and I knew from that day that I had grown a passion for photography. For years I continued to work out of different apartments, every time I moved, I made sure I had space for a little studio. Then in 2017, I got fired from what I thought was my dream job working at the news station as an assistant director and I was pregnant with my first child. I was extremely devastated however this opened my eyes and made me want to go harder with my growing photography business so that’s exactly what I did. I got serious with, learning more about photography, shooting manual, studio lighting, registering my business, making it an LLC, and doing whatever I needed to do to become official! Then within just a few months, I got my first commercial space studio and this opened out the door for more clients and creative setups! It started off rocky having to pay an overhead fee because I was so used to keeping all of the profit but I had to learn how to accept that and find ways to create more profit. Eventually, I opened up my studio to other photographers and fitness classes which was a great idea because it also allowed me to make friends in my field and create a team of some amazing people whom I’m truly grateful for in so many aspects! Here we are 5 years later in a brand-new studio that’s a lot bigger and ready to plan a grand opening event! So, I’m just getting re-started!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I covered a lot of this question in the first question lol but there were plenty of other struggles I encountered along the way. I’ve gone through doubtful moments when upgrading locations (but I’ve learned that it always works out and timing is everything). I’ve gained and lost clients and friends, (which taught me people come in different seasons for different reasons) I’ve had unsatisfied clients (taught me you can’t please everyone), I’ve lost important photos due to SD card failure (taught me to back up everything! lol). The list goes on but I’ve also learned that everything happens for a reason and to just learn from it, find the message in each struggle then use it to do better in the future.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in maternity sessions, boudoir sessions, newborn sessions, engagement sessions, and weddings however I will shoot anything that can be done in the studio! My work is known for its creativity and unique setups. which in my opinion sets me apart, I have a talent for bringing visions to life through day projects and my camera gear! Lastly, I’m most proud of how far I’ve come with the quality of my photography and unique style because I’ve worked so hard to get where I am.

What does success mean to you?
I define success as setting and achieving personal goals to get to where you want to be in life!
