Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Allen.
Hi Taylor, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Before Present Iteration, I spent much of a decade running wholesale departments and business development for luxury brands. As I grew aware of the environmental impact of the clothing and textile industry, I made it my mission to progress towards a more sustainable future through education and advocacy in my personal and professional life.
I drafted ideas for a business model that could blend the worlds of luxury fashion, education, and sustainability into one. I worked to create a space for both the confused and conscious shoppers. With this began Present Iteration, a virtual marketplace that represents ethical brands and contributes to consumer knowledge.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Overall, it has been a moderately smooth road. There are always going to be challenges. Situations come out of nowhere that may serve as a roadblock. Some struggles along the way were getting brands to understand that less is more. We do not want to buy ten purses and hope someone buys them. We only want you to create a purse if there is a need. Our minds have been trained to consume more, so it is a challenge to reframe our thoughts around such deeply held beliefs.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We want the consumer to know that “everything you bought had a life before.” We often use this phrase to represent our business principles, but we also want to emphasize its call to action. Consumers should know a product’s origin before it arrives at their door. It is essential to ask about its source, the resources it requires, and the hands it passed through. You ask, we answer. Our marketplace promises brands with transparent supply chains and eco-philosophies that match our own stories.
We specialize in sustainably sourced goods that undergo a rigorous verification process to ensure that all of Present Iteration’s offerings are of the highest quality, both expressive and ethically. Everything you bought had a life before. Welcome to your new Present.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I have learned along the journey is that most companies want to become more sustainable. This is why I feel it is important to offer sustainability consulting for brands that hope to join the Present Iteration family in the future. Any brand’s commitment to sustainable branding can immediately lead them to be featured on Present Iteration–this is our pledge.
